I think you should detatch the Isle Of Wight and Anglesey from the mainland. (Not as a new territory, just graphically).

Ok, i have 2 weeks of holiday at the moment, i will need to do revision for exams, but i cant do that all day so i need something to distract me, and DAB looks like a good cause. So could you bring all the graphic concerns to the table during this 2 weeks and by the end of it i will try to have a nearly finished version of the large and small map. Though i need to wait on Balsiefen return to get the XML started.

Ogrecrusher wrote:I think you should detatch the Isle Of Wight and Anglesey from the mainland. (Not as a new territory, just graphically).

I can try, but im not sure how successful it will be though.

hulmey wrote:finish this already :P

I am trying to finish it, but it takes time, the major hold up is the XML.

That will be changed to fit in with the other fonts/golws on the map when the final style is decided on.

the font is my only issue with the map. I voted for the slight glow btw

Is it possible to increase the size of the text by one point or two? That might help a lot.

On the map the territory seems to say Brega. On the castle connections legend it looks like Broga. I suppose the e just looks like an o when the font is that small. Maybe there's a different font that could be used that still fits the style but is more readable?

Graphics wise 'ey ...

The most obvious thing is that the graphics of the castle floor plans/insets do not come close to meeting the standard of the rest of the map ... they still seem in thier rudimentary form of development ...
- they look very "boxy" and pixelated,
colours are too bright ... or else they need to be smothed over a bit, hehe, given a bit of a smudge to lose thier hard edge, but really, maybe they just need to be tied into the map alittle more (i.e., they look a little out thier place)

- can't read the name of the town where london is now ... infact, most of the names (and the glows certainly don't make it easier ... it's a beautiful font, but for these purposes it seems like it needs to be spaced out a bit (i.e. between letters), or something like that).

But a beautiful map in general.

I think the text is too intense, more obvious in the blue, i might try using a greyer type font.

edbeard wrote:Is it possible to increase the size of the text by one point or two? That might help a lot.

It is possible, but i dont know if it will fit the territories as easily.

The castle connection box was added in a hurry, i really need to redo some of it.

The colours only became too bright recently, but i can tone it down. As for the borders, they need to be crisp, so that you can see that every room cant attack every other room in the castle. THe boxes used to have a drop shadow, which made them fit better, i dont know where it has gone, i will have to check on that.

It seems that the font could do with a change, i will have a look around and see what i can find to fill the need of the font...

I think the territory names need to be made bigger or a clearer font, but I like the glow.

Also, if you made the caslte plan borders a bit thicker then I think that would be clearer and you could also get away with sftening the edges a bit.

Great map btw, I like the way it's coming along

I'd agree on both points - glow is a must, text could be a bit bigger since you're losing parts of the letters (look at the "t" in Gate). The text on the water could stand out a bit more as well.

I'm still unhappy with the castle plans - they don't work with the rest of the image, with the right angles and crisp lines. An old diagram of a castle wouldn't have different colors and crisp angles. And I'd like to see the territory names on/closer to the appropriate territories in the castle diagrams.

Army circles, or no?

I agree with Oaktown on the crisp angles and lines...it is something I think (or at least I thought) I mentioned early on in this thread...those seem out of place with the general rough feeling of the map.

wessex is the best I'd say

north umbria is second

wales third

I don't get the vote for Mercia. That one doesn't seem that readable to me.

I went for Northumbria... But wessex is also good... I really like the Pictland one theme wise - but it's just not legible.

EDIT: I see that a lot of text has been removed to show the beta fonts.

As for fonts, I think the Strathclyde and Pictland fonts are way too hard to read, but the rest of them are great.

With only 10 votes in the poll. im going to have to post a interest poll. Because i really dont want to be spending time try to work on a map going nowhere, i might as well try to fix the titanic with selotape.

I will need a word with Balsiefen whatever the result of the poll, he might yet want to try and save this...

It is not a matter of which text to use, (i was going to use wessex), it is more a matter of whether people are actually interested in this map, and whether it is worth continuing...
