Never attack more then you can defend.
Better to defend an existing bonus than to attack too far for more bonus.
Plan attacks carefully in a Chained or Adjacent game so as to leave behind a sufficient defense.
Before starting a move plan how you want it to finish. Where do you want your troops to be at the end.
If you lose a bonus due to a poor defense you might not get it back.
