Alright, my first game in the Society of Cooks. It looks like I'm going last in this game of 6 people, so let's see what happens. My first turn I am going to: "Deploy only, Do not attack the first turn unless you have 3 out of 4 territories on the small 2 Continents"

Here's a question, what if come my turn there is an enemy's territory with only 1 troop? Should I still not attack?

Welcome to the society. I hope your learning experience is as good as mine continues to be.

To answer your question:

It depends on the circumstances. I have gone for a card my first turn. However one of the key things that makes a good player is Patience and Discipline. I have many times gone for what I have thought should be an easy card only to discover the dice Gods decree different. We practice what we call soft attacking. Instead of going for the card until you win you attack only once.

personally I don't go for the card the first round anymore as Its just not that important. I have found that nothing is worse then going from 6 vs 1, pushing my luck and losing 3 armies and still no card.

trust me when I say there will be many opportunities to kill a one for a card.
Its also OK if you don't get a card each round.

Think of it as the other player is holding your cards for you.

Looking at your game what do you think your deploy will be. You have 1 of the best territs in asia (A's)but nothing in Usa(N's). how will you fort?

Here are my thoughts:

I think that Yellow will clearly kill my territory in Oceania and then later attempt to leave Oceania by attacking Pink at A7. With my territories at E7, A2/4/9 I have an attacking point at all of Pink's other territories -- except E2. Assuming that he will eventually be the weakest player (and really the only player that I have the opportunity to take out of the game at the moment) I think I should fortify 3 of those 4 territories that I named. I think my deployment will me 1 in E7, A2 and A4.

What do you guys think?

try this Deploy 1 E7 and 2 A2 end attack fort S3 to S1 And A4 to A9 this gives you 2 or 3 ways into the N's. and you keep A2 which is prime real estate

Alright. Finally my turn. Nothing seems to have changed too much so my play will be:
Deploy 1 E7 and 2 A2 end attack fort S3 to S1

2nd turn: "2nd turn start to build 2 to 4 strong groups. You may now take easy cards, I.e. attack 1's but no more than twice. Try to never loose more than 2 of the 3 you deployed."

I'm not totally sure what to do here. I'm thinking maybe deploy on E7 and take E4 or E3 only so that I'm closer to NA. It's really the only easy territory I can take.

Thoughts?

Try this- Deploy 2 on E7 and 1 on A2 then from E7 hit and advance to E4 IF you can tack it in 2 hits. then end attack and fort A4 to A9

Ok. What's the advantage of fortifying from A4 to A9? Just want to make sure I'm learning as I'm doing it.

Thanks!

on the risk board The N section is the USA. Exactly how many men do you have in USA?

So when the time comes to eliminate- Lets say Blue- you got nobody in the N area. We will work this A9 group or E7 group over there.

3rd turn: "much like the 2nd but now we are looking to start to move to the key places to hold if we are not already in them."

So I'm still trying to get towards NA but it looks like green is probably going to try and take me out of S1 next round so he can collect 2 extra troops. Should I deploy 1 there? If not, I'm thinking deploy 2 to E4, 1 to A9. Attack E4 to E2 . End attack. Should I split my troops between E4 and E2 or put them all on E2?

I agree that green is getting ready to attack you in the Ss, however you have no way out that loses fewer troops, or leaves you stronger. So let S fend for itself.

I suggest you deploy:
1 to E4
2 to A2
Then Attack A1 from A2 and forward all (don't lose more than two armies)

This leaves you on prime real estate A1 and prepared to go to the Ns with E4.

No.

Now deploy 2 to E4 and 1 to A2

Attack E2 and follow all to E2. Don't lose more than two armies.

3rd turn: "4th turn easy card and now the plays of other players are more defined. This means we look at who we think we can start setting up to take out first."

Weakest player on the map is pink. Luckily, I'm in the perfect spot to take him out. Is it too early to try and do this? I think I probably can. Deploy 1 on E2, 2 on A2. Attack E3, E7, A1 from E2 -- Attack A3, A5, A7 from A2 -- Attack A8 from A9. The hardest to take will be A7. Is this worth it so early in the game?

If I don't do it, Yellow might try it so maybe I should deploy 3 on A4 and take A5 and move everyone to A5. Then it makes it harder for him to get to A8 or A3. Or do the same thing from A2 and split the troops between A2 and A5.

Thoughts?

OK, yes you should try to take pink -- he has four cards and that would give you set to fortify a bit with. You will get points, but be weak

I suggest you deploy 3 to A2

Start with E2 to E3
Then E3 to E7 if you can
Then E7 to A1 if you can

Then A9 to A8 and stop there

If you didn't get A1 earlier take it with A2 but do not follow
Then A2 to A3
Then A3 to A5
Then A5 to A7

Good luck
