not a fan of the title treatment tho, its pretty ugly.

Mibi...what are your thoughts on how this should be....? Anyone?

I think you have a nice clean backdrop with the yellow, no point added a second backdrop (the stone) for the title, it just makes everything look more compressed... You have lots of negative space in the top left corner... work with it, keep it open.

while i like the idea of Osiris looking over the map, I'm kind of wondering if the first image of the pyramid with the sphinx was more ideal as it was sitting aloft in the sun - RA - on no background, was the better of the two?

hm i liked the hyroglyphics- i think itd be cool to have the title in hyroglyphics- or the glyph for "risk" or somehting, like oaktown did in his chinese checkers map. but i agree with mibi- no need 4 a second backdrop. keep it just yellow.
Do you need an excuse to have a war? I mean, who for? Can't you just say "You got lots of cash and land, but I've got a big sword, so divy up right now, chop chop."

i think the background of the hyrogliphes must be the same as the yellow color you used for the background

the hieroglyph dingbats are pretty pointless since they have no real meaning nor do correspond to any letter except in the font makers mind.

also, the pyramids and sphinx are a bit out of place since thats not where the valley of the kings was located.

Im not sure what to do, but i will say that less may me more in this case.

also you need to bump up your save quality, there certainly is some jpeg compression on these.

Yes appreciate what u say here.

also, the pyramids and sphinx are a bit out of place since thats not where the valley of the kings was located.
yes i agree they are not located near the valley of the kings, however, the pyramid itself remembner is a tomb, and the sphinx (in many forms but more importantly a breast plate) is possibly meant to mean kingship in many of the reigns of the kings in this valley.

Im not sure what to do, but i will say that less may me more in this case.
yes i agree, as the map is already busy and needs some "design" free space.

also you need to bump up your save quality, there certainly is some jpeg compression on these.
see what i can do.
Thanks Mibi.

Nice work cairns, but I prefer the previous title with the pyramid, etc. Can we see a large version?

I'm not sure we need a poll, just go with what the general feeling is in the thread and how you feel about it personally. Neither are bad options, so I don't think it really matters. I agree with mibi though, less is probably more. Perhaps you could lose the background images altogether and make the title bigger? It would be more consistent with the rest of the maps visuals I feel.

Gees...that was quick! :) You mean lose the pyramid/sphinx and just keep the title?

Hrmmm... I'm still in the unusual situation of looking at this map and not getting it. You should seriously think about making things easer to understand, either explaining better or by making them more... simple.

I like the bigger title, but yes, it's not quite right.

Nikolai... :) Without being rude or nasty, if all the maps were made simple, there would be very little challange for the broad corss-section of people who like to visit this site. Not everyone enjoys a simple map.
If all the maps were made simple, there would be no learning happening.

If you've played King of the Mountains, and attacked from the helicopter pads to the mountain tops, then this is only slightly different. This maps merely extends that concept, and has a take off pad (kings with scarabs), a different landing pad when returning from the mountain (robbers with eye of horus). And just like in KOTM, helicopter take-off pads can attack each other.
Hope that starts to clear things up a bit. :)

I'm not really a fan of the newer titles either. I think keeping it simple is the key. Out of all the ones you've posted so far, the original is still probably the best.

Well, we'll return to the basic first title....I agree with that one myself.

But I do want to ask.

Because of the layout of the map, is it suffering from being overcrowded and difficulty to understand it.

Would it help if I was to re-design and split up the pathways to the tombs into giant continents with the Afterlife in the centre?

I am going furder on this one, seeing the other title is messy.

I am going a bit disorganized (against my principle, meh)

- Eye of Ra in B1, do perhaps like C1, in B1 looks jumping out.
- Perhaps a desert fond behing title area?

rest is muncho bieno (failure in spanish, I know)

V25 Complete Re-design

Postby cairnswk on Sat May 12, 2007 2:45 am

Complete Re-design

Why? Confusion about the layout and possible complication expressed by voting stats.

Obviously not complete...but getting there...putting food on the table for the munchkins! I'm sure there'll be plenty of reaction.
