what if you take the saturation down a bit. It looks too bright now. But overall, I think it's a good solution.

Could you make the color on the unplayables lands (Spain, Britain, Germany, etc.) a bit more off-white? I feel it's too bright right now. I'd prefer a grey color, but since you want to keep things in the white style, I think a less bright shade of white could work.

For gameplay, what exactly is the point of having a +1 bonus for Paris? I've never been a real fan of one-territory bonuses, even if they do start neutral. I'd recommend taking that bonus away and giving the whole region a +3 bonus. Of course, many will probably disagree with me on this.

Since the center continent will be very hard to hold, maybe consider making it a +7 or +8? The other bonuses look good.

What is a shade of white... you mean grey?
In fact Northern France should have a +3 bonus, but in order to give the historical feeling of the king power in Versailles, I split it in +1 for Paris and +2 if you hold the entire region including Paris.
I used the Oaktown's Continent Bonus Spreadsheet to detrermine the bonus repartition, but if anyone else think it need to be lifted up I'll change it.

By shade of white I meant a very light tan, or beige, or cream, or whatever you want to call it. Something that's almost white, but not quite as bright. Something like #F5F5DC or #EEEEE0.

Latest version looking pretty good to me.

Ruben - can you see the continents now that he's extended the border areas?

Yes, I can. However I suggest you swap the colours of South West with South East or change the tone of South West a bit as red and green next to each other are always a bit problematic.

I still prefer version 09 with the full colouring to be honest, but at least I can distinguish the colours better now, even in this version.

Why not put up a poll between those two versions?

why do some territories have a white stroke, while the others dont? I think it should be consistent.

Re: FRANCE 18th century [I] v14 / VOTE NOW

Postby pamoa on Mon Jun 30, 2008 1:24 am

Please choose 14 or 13

Poll look strange but do work. Even if it don't seems so, you only have 2 option.
The total of voters is to divide by 4 (i.e. 40 means 10 voters) but the percentage is to multiply by 4 (i.e. 15% means 60%)
To whom who's concerned, this poll stuff need a fix!

It's a phpBB bug...which seems to arise when you upload a new poll over and old without ever actually "deleting" the old poll. Let us know if you'd like it fixed. :)

As requested, poll removed. Try implementing it like you originally wished to. Let me know if it goes chaotic again. :)

For reference, old messed up poll results:

14 / 6 / 15%
14 / 6 /15%
14 / 6 / 15%
14 / 6 / 15%

v06 but with minimap 4 / 10%
version 13 / 4 / 10%
version 13 / 4 / 10%
13 / 4 / 10%

Total votes : 40

Interpret it the way you'd like!

For future reference, if you edit a poll to have no question and no options, it removes itself. If you do that then recreate the new poll you should be able to avoid the bug,

POLL RESULTS
v14 4 votes 44 %
v13 5 votes 55%

For me their is no clear preference and as I prefer version with only a border "glow", I'll stick to my initial idea!
Any other suggestions?

Nice democratic decision...

I prefer version 13...the one that has most votes. Considering that probably you voted for v14 that's 5 vs 3 votes for version 13 from the other members of the foundry.

Why did you put up a poll if you were going to ignore it?

I'm not a huge fan of the white version, but if you are going to go with it, I'd tone the white to something off-white.

I know I am only one opinion, but I love the white versions. I actually preferred version 12 to the current version (14), and as a color-blind user myself I appreciate the use of texture along the borders in addition to the color. But there are many flavors of colorblindness, so if v.14 is better for some eyes so be it.

Bonuses look good to me.

36 starting territories means unbalanced start in 2/3 player games as the first player gets four armies and everybody else only 3, but whatever. No map can be perfect for every game configuration.

Visually I'm not a fan of the boat - it looks a bit too grey-scaled and not line-art enough to fit the 18th century theme of the map. Maybe drive it to line a bit more, or at least do something about the perfectly flat bottom.

Anywho, that's for somebody else to sort out. I'm satisfied on my end.
