Here's the new version of the map, 6 continents, Jerusalem not Israel or Palestine, 42 territories and revised bonus numbers. What say you?

edit: after discussion with lackattack, the final verdict on the most infamous territory, the name is Israel and Palestinian Terr. Now we can all move on.

not bad, not bad at all.....................

The darker brown lines are uncrossable mountains (I should have made that clear) and the editor I used...MS Paint. Gotta love the simplicity!

This map isnt alike the classic risk map. You have no continents with 12 countries like Asia, nor continents with only one border country, like Oceania. This map is different, more balanced, but I dont know if its a good idea.

A tip to you: if you want a map more alike the classic, make a table of each continent that includes number of countries, countries in border, frontiers between countries in same continent, and frontiers between countries of continent and countries of different continents.

I did such table for Classic map already. If you want, use it as a refference.
(ps: each frontier is counted twice; Brazil - Argentina and Argentina - Brazil, for example)

1) North America (9 countries):
Total border countries: 3
Total frontiers same cont: 31
Total frontiers other cont: 3

2) South America (4 countries):
Total border countries: 2
Total frontiers same cont: 10
Total frontiers other cont: 2

3) Africa (6 countries):
Total border countries: 3
Total frontiers same cont: 18
Total frontiers other cont: 5

4) Europe (7 countries):
Total border countries: 4
Total frontiers same cont: 22
Total frontiers other cont: 8

5) Asia (12 countries):
Total border countries: 5
Total frontiers same cont: 42
Total frontiers other cont: 8

6) Oceania (4 countries):
Total border countries: 1
Total frontiers same cont: 10
Total frontiers other cont: 1

no, you guys arnt getting it. WE are not talking about pleasing anyone im just trying to be geographically correct, there is no country called palestine or called jerusalem, the country is called israel. this game is about taking over countries, not names of places.

ok... but Kamchatka isnt the name of a country, yet its on the classic map. And if you look at Canada you'll find that its missing and instead 3 provinces (out of 7) and 1 territory (out of 3) are taking the place. See its not trying to be perfectly geographicaly correct, its trying to be playable. Who cares if its called qsklheakoc. They named it Jerusalem because there was a lot of bickering about if it should be Israel or Palestine. So its Jerusalem instead, everyone is pleased. Voila!

Yeah, if you want to get 'techincal' half the place on this map are no countries, just names I made up from regions within countries. The fact of the matter is the place you insist on calling Israel is made up of the State of Israel, the Palesinian Territories of Gaza and the West Bank. Thus it isn't just Israel. And if you look back into history, the fact is that up until the British took it over after World War I, it was called Jerusalem, the Independant Sanjak of Jerusalem. This game isn't about taking over 'countries' persay, as much as made up territories, not that the large majority of the countries in this region had their borders drawn by foriegn powers anyway, the real lines are just as irrelivant as the ones I made. So don't be so picky about what I called it, I was trying to avoid pissing off both sides of debate that has gripped this region for over 50 years, calling it Jerusalem was a compromise that seemed to fit better than having an overly long name like 'Israel and the Occupied Palestine Territories' or something.

Marvaddin, I thought the whole point of doing up new maps is so we have something to play on that's NOT exactly the same as the Classic board.

i see your point, it is just that with maps such as canada or us, there is no names of countries because the entire game takes place in 1 country, and in classic, it is about continents not countrys so things are named by area. But in this map it is about countries, all little countries are named, so i was just saying that one of the countries is miss named. It is not called jerusalem or palestine. when you look on a map it says Israel.

I hope they put the map up soon !!! Looks like fun.

Jerusalem ... I geuss is fitting since this a game of conquest. And that city has been conquered something like 47 times in its history. Rebuilt numerous times. It does epitomize this game.

In Hebrew it is just called "The Land" Ha'Erev.

thegrimsleeper,

I agree with you, the new maps shouldnt be a copy of the classic, but the classic should be studied, so its an idea of what to do alike it or different.

marv,

You make an interesting point, but the fun of some new maps is to get not only new scenery but a whole new playing experience. My very first version of this map, I thought in terms of the classic map but it evolved into something totally new.

PS: I've set up the .XLM file for the large version, I have to shrink it down and place the numbers and this pup will be playable (if lack approves!)

In playing the map, Istanbul apparently can't be attacked from anywhere and Uzbekistan can only be attacked from Kabul.

I'm very excited about the new map. Thanks Spiegelprime (and, as always, Lackattack) for making it. Sorry a few people are bickering over place names and such instead of playing the game.

It appears that right now Uzbekistan can't be attacked by Turkmenistan.

Lucky Uzbekistanis, I'll get you somehow...
