[EoA] Built in User Scripts

Postby King Dain II on Tue Aug 12, 2008 1:40 pm

Concise description:
  • Make scrips such as click-able maps, map rank, and other popular user scripts parts of the site without having to download them.

Specifics:
  • Instead of having to download scripts and get greasy monkey, and all that other stuff, why not build the popular scripts into conquerclub? It would make more people use them and would be a great help to all of us (like me) that can not download and properly work a script because of software deficiencies, use of several computers to go on the site, and any other reasons a person may have.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • More people using scripts
  • Less complaining about click-able map use
  • More features added to the site

Map Rank integrated to the site

Postby Falkomagno on Mon Jun 25, 2012 10:35 am

Concise description:
  • Integrated that add-on tool, which has been serving long time and is (was) used widely by the community

Specifics/Details:
  • As far as i understand, Map Rank is not been updated anymore for its creator. Been such a useful tool, widely appreciated by the community, the logical step is to integrate it to the website, as done previously with the clickies

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • It would allow to have a reliable tool to assess the performance of individuals in specific settings, throughout the time, having a consolidate of highest/lowest score points, streaks and all the useful information that Map Rank used to give.

Good suggestion.

I would just hope that they don't screw it up like they did the clickies.

Map Rank

Postby kuma32478 on Sun Feb 09, 2014 1:09 pm

Concise description:

The ability to see a person's statistics on finished games for each map.

Specifics/Details:

Allow a report for an individual that can summarize data from completed games.
If possible, make it able to be exported to Excel.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:

A number of us, especially clan leaders use Map Rank. It's vital to know who the best player on a map is from an experience standpoint.

This would be the most valuable fix for the website.

This also puts to rest many of the qualms about the score system. With map rank, you can provide yourself with several standards of Awesomeness per player examined. And, people like map ranking themselves to see how Awesome they are and to see which map and settings are most Awesome.

If you support Awesomeness, you support map rank; therefore, you become Awesomer.

QED.

If I could, I would like to suggest that rather than just adding Map Rank, the dates in which the games were played is stored as a parameter, so I can use it to calculate Monthly Challenges.

Might as well also integrate Tour Stats, another important add-on that is no longer being supported by its creator. I'm not a techie, but I think the structure may be related, so they could probably do both steps at once.

Adds up the wins, losses, and kills of players in a tournament.

Like most of chip's tools, though, it isn't being supported any more, and it seems to get slower and slower as time goes on.

Maybe the tech guys can answer this, but how hard is it to integrate greasemonkey scripts into the site? Is the programming basically the same or are they completely different? It would seem to me that if they were basically the same, then the code has already been written and just needs to be tweaked and integrated.

This depends entirely on the script. I'll try my best to explain though I'm a mobile guy more than a web guy.

Greasemonkey scripts are pretty much like the code on any site (javascript) with some key modifications. These allow you to store data over time such as your BOB settings etc. Normal web browsers don't usually allow this and it's part of the reason you can't use greasemonkey in all browsers. These extra bits are what make adding greasemonkey scripts to the site take so long as they would have to be redeveloped for the site.

There is also a consideration for maintenance. As the OP pointed out, the script itself has fallen out of development. If it becomes a part of the site that means it needs to be maintained or the site as a whole will suffer. The issue here is that every new feature requires more time to maintain. So every hour spent integrating and maintaining Map Ranks would mean less time on other things.

Hope that makes the issues a little clearer. I can't speak about the website direction on this as, again, I'm just the app guy.
