[Site] Minimize Announcements

Postby JdeV 100 on Wed Oct 09, 2013 6:37 pm

When CC has something to tell us, such as presently to expect some downtime, a big announcement in a box appears at the top of the page. I find it really intrusive, and it would be nice to have an option to minimise it.

Yeah, they do allow the option to hide it in some cases like when they were announcing Conquer Cup tourneys. You just had to click through to the announcement one time and you never saw it again. Seems like the same thing could be done with these: something to click on that will henceforth hide the announcement.

I was thinking about whether there were any issues with this or if it could be submitted. The issue that there may be is that an announcement like site downtime is something that players should not forget about. They need to remember. So, it makes more sense to leave it pinned as an announcement for a day or two. This is different from something like the small ads for Conquer Cup or other things.

So maybe this is something that shouldn't be implemented, but the mods/admin should keep in mind every time they post an announcement. Sometimes you want people to be able to take some action to get rid of the announcement (like clicking through to at least look at the Conquer Cup entry), but other times should be permanent (like site outage reminders).

After initial reading on site outages, the entire message could be summed up to one line that says:

REMINDER SITE IS GOING TO BE DOWN 01-01-2013 @ 17:30-18:00. Click for more original/expanded message.
taking a break from cc, will be back sometime in the future.
