What kind of tasks?

Unworkable with so many maps now unless the missions HAD to be made with a map. Otherwise they would be vague like "own the smallest continent" or "earn 15 units in a turn" on some maps it would be easy on others it would not be

I agree, and this would be too easy to abuse in freestyle games. It's a nice idea though.

And as some maps have win-cons now anyway it seems redundant.

This also sounds rather like the mission cards in Risk the board game, let's not go near copyright infringement again! :)

yeah, that was where the idea came from. The board game came with cards and on the cards there are tasks, the first to finish 4 wins... i think. eg. here are some: Take control of 5 islands on this turn, or Get 5 armies this turn

Mission Cards

PostPosted: Sat May 29, 2010 11:11 pm
by Nola_Lifer
Concise description:
  • Mission Cards are handed out for standard games and multiteam teamgames. On each card will identify a mission to accomplish. Each mission will be unique in that no other person will have that same mission. Complete mission and win the game.

Specifics:
  • Not every map will require nor expect to have Cards. Examples of missions could be to assassinate player x, take bonus x, or take city x, city y, and hold bonus x. Team games could have combination of killing a player and holding bonus and/or cities

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Introduce more strategy into game play
  • Add more to maps then just having to take objective or complete wipe out.
  • Could add a whole subsection to the Map forums just for discussion of missions.
  • Add another option for users to play

What would completing the mission do? Give a bonus of troops? Win the game?

Would your opponents be able to see your mission?

HippieBroker suggested an option for card to be hidden or not

This idea is just like the way Risk worked when I used to play, when I was just a small child....

I fully support this idea.

Yeah, I still remember some ridiculous missions like "conquer Asia and South America"
I support this but it should be more detailed.

Well what details do you want? There are so many maps and so many different ways that missions could be used, so I made the suggestion with idea in mind to be general cause each map is different.

Sounds like a good idea.

Could have assassin/terminator type missions too.

How about like a terminator that you dont get the points right after killing the person, but whoever has the most kills in the end gets all the points

My idea is that CC automatically creates a standard deck consisting of:
A # of Assassin Cards depending on the number of players. For example, a 4 players game would have 4 assassin mission cards as listed: "Kill player 1 to win the game", "Kill player 2 to win the game", and so on.

On maps with let's say 50 or less territories a number of "hold region A and B for 1 round to win the game" mission cards will be created. For example, The Classic map would have 30 possible combinations.

On maps with 51+ territories the mission cards deck would have combinations of holding 3 bonus regions for 1 round to win the game.

Terminator Mission Cards: Like edwin suggested there could be cards about killing half the players on the board to win the game (this could only apply to 4+ players games). For example, in an 8 players game you there would be a mission card stating "kill 4 players to win the game".
4 players: Kill any two players to win the game.
5 players: Kill any two/three players to win the game.
6 players: kill any three players to win the game.
7 players: kill any three/four players to win the game.
8 players: kill any four players to win the game.

Assassin Mission Cards: The same way the current option works with the difference that if someone kills your target your new mission would be to kill all the players to win the game or to hold the objectives stated on the map legend (only if it applies).

Just a quick question. I understand merging suggestions together helps to organize but it doesn't help my point now does it. Also, someone may look at the secret missions thread and go "o, I already read this so I am going to ignore it."
I guess my biggest point would just be a subsection of the map foundry to include missions. Sully said there are already mission type games setup with assassin and terminator games. I feel that assassin is mainly luck and I want to increase strat on this site. Also, the whole copyright infringement can be thrown out the window because you can't copy right that part of the game only the board/images and also the name Risk.
I really hope that missions cards could be of a higher standard then just having generic setting placed for all maps. Like I said before every map does not need a mission :!:

Yeah TFO, bring that star trek sheesh outta here, Nola's idea on the mission cards would be awesome, i would suggest maybe to have some missions actually win the game (mission's that would be more difficult). and some mission just give you bonus troops or something, or maybe in fog games that some missions would turn on the lights. Just an idea. Who ever did this would for sure have to sit down for a long time and write down what all the different missions are gonna be for all the different maps, head ache just thinking about it but i would suggest at least 20 - 30 mission for each map just so players wouldn't know exactly what other players are going for each time because over time players would start to memorize all the missions if it was just a few. Maybe a different way to take care of that issue tho. Still great idea nola. Keep it rollin

It may get more people to look at your thread, due to the high amount of posts. Plus we really want to clean up the forum.
