I like the idea, but you need copyright permissions for this.
It would be nice to have a space map similar to this one though.

CC already has some maps (e.g. Midgard, Tamriel, Discworld) that are based on novels or games. Midgard is obviously based on Tolkien's "Middle Earth" -- except that all the names are changed.

I play at another "Risk"-type site that has "space" maps which are clearly based on Star Wars and Star Trek, with all the names UNchanged.

Also I play at a small site that has a map of Westeros, from Game of Thrones.

Did they get copyright permission? How hard (or expensive) is it to get permission?

Just wondering...

discworld had permission, midgard is changing the names (just like the classic map here is not exactly hasbro's risk game).

several people tried to do westeros, but that was a big no no for the copyright holders
tamriel i don't really know wat it's based on, but i think they agreed.
star wars being disney, there is no way they will accept. i suggest you to fool around with the names so we all know what it's about but you are not really using the real ones

Thank you for your informative comment. It makes me wonder why that other gamesite I mentioned still has a map that uses the names of planets from the Star Wars universe, unmodified.

It's a very small site, so maybe Disney hasn't noticed...
