The Origins of Risk...

Postby Black Jack on Tue May 02, 2006 12:58 pm

I ran across a dated, but still good, article on the history of Risk.

Read article

An interesting partial list of games that Risk has inspired... is also included.

I've got my old board with the wooden pieces tucked away in a safe place.

Many sleepless nights hovering over that board while in college. A beer in one hand, a , well let's forget what else I had......
The ground was rushing up at me. It had been one heck of a ride. And suddenly I wondered………

Who packed my parachute?

A slide rule? A bowler hat? An opium pipe? What are you on about, gramps, playing these guessing games!

You clearly like Risk more than anyone else, Patroclus. I mean, most people use pornography. Didn't your opponents complain?

i've got the wooden pieces
'inherited' it from my dad & my uncle. they used to spend weeks over their games when they were whippersnappers. they even had to introduce different coloured washers to indicate 50 & 100 armies. This was mostly down to an early misreading of the rules; they were dividing armies by 3 instead of territories. Oh, how we laughed at them!
I think I started playing Risk with them not that long after my first words...
Ah, such sweet memories
