What happens if you fall to 0 points? Do you simply go into negatives, or would you just stop losing points?

It's possible that when your score becomes small enough and the ratio of your score with any player you play against is at most 0.0245, then you won't lose any points - if the rounding is standard. So a winner with 3000 points, would take no score from someone with just 73 points, (74 points would be 1) similarly, someone with 300 points, would take no score from someone with 7 points and below. So as long you steer clear from players that fall within the ratio limit, you'll be fine - providing the need should ever arise.
