Hmm... good start. It could use some impassables. Also do all the Islands attack all the islands? that seems a little strange.

"ports of the same color can attack each other" so can the orangeish looking one only attack islands?

Next version will get rid of orange port. We are going to make it so only ports of the same bonus can attack islands of the same bonus. Also impassables will be added to the next version as well. WE are waiting on the original version (that will help us alot.)

You're going to need to depict how exactly one attacks those Islands... using dotted lines is the most common practice.

But, in my opinion, I think it would be cool if you had one standard type of Port that connects to all other ports, cause lets face it, ships can kind of go where ever they want. If you dropped the colored ports you could then say the ports can attack any island they please.

Thumbs up.

If ports could attack any island then the messina bonus is legitimately impossible to hold.

mmm... good point. Well then you could make sea zones as a sort of super territory accessible by all ports and the islands within are all attacked by the sea zone.

Sicily is a very mountainous region and even has an active volcano (Mount Etna). You could do an autodeploy for the volcano with the ability to bombard since the island lives in fear of the eruptions. That should find it's way on the map somehow. There are also a bunch of small rivers in Southern Sicily.

Also, try to get rid of the bonus regions with only three terts as maps with these are unbalanced. I know that the original mapmaker decided to use the 9 provinces of the region of Sicily but there has to be more terts in some of them, especially Raguso and San Cataldo.

Pantelleria should be the green of Agrigento and not pink.

And also, the colors of the region names in the list don't match the map's colors.

Interesting points mate. Depending on the location of the volcano we'll consider that. Also, expanding the 2 bonuses, Raguso and San Cataldo would be in-accurate and we're trying to stay accurate to the area.

Something to consider:

You could incorporate the WWII naval invasion of Sicily - Operation Husky - Montgomery and Patton's race to Messina.. The Germans Herman Goering Fallschirm-Panzer-Division, vital roads, towns, terrain, beaches, allied naval, axis airforce, etc... It was a major invasion. The allies 1st step taken to get back onto the European continent, create a second front to relieve some of the pressure off of Russia and conquer Italy.

Very nice start risk! This should move forward. 8-)

in addition to mviola.
the etna is where the territ bronte is on your map atm. i wouldn't say it could bombard all the island territs, but just all the north east ones (a line going from mistretta, troina, ramacca and catania). but of course it has to be thought with the gameplay i suppose...

some impassable, mountains first as there are a lot on the island.
nebrodie separate (approximately !) north borders of enna, troina and bronte from tortoricci and mistretta.
madonie between san cataldo in the south and corleone, trabia and castelbuono in the north
iblei between ragusa in the south and calatagirone, fran. and syracusa in the north.

Those are the main ones, but as mviola said there are others a bit everywhere so they can be added to help the gameplay. As the ones i mentionned can be slightly modified very easily (extended or shortened) for the same purpose.

same for the rivers, to these ones (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: ... ap-bjs.jpg), you can add the simeto which is the one south of alcantara on the map in my link (between troina and bronte, through ramacca, and finally to the sea between catania and fran.)

hope it helps. keep the good job going and don't worry asking me anything if you need. just wall or pm me as well and i'll come here to check out

I'll come back later with comments for the port stuff, i'm not too convinced but have to think about it...

Ok, I just want to make sure I get this correct: all islands connect to each other. So I can go from Lipari to Linosa if I want. I thought you wanted to avoid this as it would make the bonuses too hard to obtain.

True, but already it's rather impractical to pursue. I think separating the islands and the mainland of Messina would remedy this quite well.

Islands do NOT connect to each other, islands ONLY connect to a port in the same bonus as pre-mentioned island.

For islands you could have each cluster be their own bonus and not part of a mainland bonus.. Or better yet like in Thyseneal you hald "X" number of islands for "X" amount of bonus.

This way you could have Islands connect to each other (within relative sanity) and ports. Something to consider and play around with.

That's a smart concept. I think we're going to post the next version with the previous concept talked about and we'll consider volcanoes/ island bonuses in v3.

Glad to see this map coming along.

I liked the Corse & Sardegna map too - small map with slightly different gameplay - would be happy to help with gameplay etc if you want to pick that up too.

I would like to see somethin special for the fortress of Pantelleria. Maybe a +1 autodeploy, or maybe a special attack route that only holding Pantelleria can unlock. Something to indicate its special status as a citadel.

I haven't been able to work on it mate, ya know, with the Holidays?

Our main update has been decided on and here's what'll happen.
1. Hold 2 Islands for +1 drop.
2. Islands no long are part of bonuses
3. All ports attack all islands and other ports; Islands can attack other islands as well as all ports.
4. A volcano will be placed in central eastern part of the map. Around southern troina.
5. The volcano will be a 15 or 20 neutral that when held ends the game by nuking all territs except the volcano itself. Thus winnning the game.
6. Added impassable rivers as well as mountains.

We are working on these things as we speak now that the Holidays are done, these should be accomplished quickly.
Cheers,
-Risk

Personally I would suggest to develope this map with a different theme, maybe go with something related with romans.

I see you're going to plit the region using provinces, in this case Pantelleria should be part of Trapani since it belongs to that Provincia. Btw it's Trapani and not TrĂ pani. ;)
Ports can be used more than a simple "can attack the other with the same color", ports are really important for sicily, take a look on wikipedia and read what are the resources of this italian zone. They have many cultural places, economical business, for example sciacca is really famous for the "arancia di ribera".
I see also that the mount etna is missing....sicily without etna?!

It's a nice graphic start but i suggest you to read a bit more about sicily and discover that that island is more than just an island in the mediterrean sea. ;)
Let your map scream sicily! Right now it's just a nice triangular island in the sea. Not saying it's ugly, far from me, just your map doesn't seem to me the region of my country that all italians know.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicily <-- take a look here, although i suggest you to use google and translate the italian page who has more info about this beautiful island.

you're right nobody, sicily could do a fantastic map. but maybe another one ? this one is already nice and i'm sure will be improved by the time it goes out.

i'd be happy to help someone that has talent to draw and stuff, i just have ideas, nothing more... that could be history, economy (jamaica style).
