Ah yes, just saw that...I certainly know of Gilligan's dedication as a leader of the Entertainment team. But an additional thanks to Gilligan for your role in the mapmaking as well.
Now let's hope you guys don't have any loopholes in the map to cheat with ;)

Psh, yeah, well it's on the Internet now...it's a great concept, it could surely be applied to all the continents.

Game 8294187 has finished, and zhartley has claimed victory, advancing directly into Round 2. Other games are finishing up.

Should the spoils be changed from Flat Rate to Escalating after Round 1?

Voted yes. Agree ordinarily settings should not be switched. But I'm in a build game (round 214) right now, where it is very difficult for someone to make a big move without completely destroying themselves. there would be me 3 more games each with the exact same settings just to cut the field in half. These games could on for quite a long time (already been months).

Only other option would be to put a round limit in place, and award a winner based on reinforcements/troops/territories etc.

Very true. I'm assuming nearly everyone will agree to the switch. A round cap will most likely need to be placed anyway on those 2 games unless people begin suiciding on each other...

Whatever you decide is fine, I would not be opposed to a round cap for these 2 games. (Even though I'm in the worst position  )
