This will be the site for tourney stats...updated through two rounds of play
These stats have no bearing on the tournament status, just an interesting look at where teams rank in various categories. Teams are sorted by points per game, followed by FG% with a divider noting the top-10 in scoring. Enjoy.

Stat links are below...top 30 is the first link...the rest are below.

Welcome to March Madness 2010…
Anyone that has played one of my sports tournaments before knows that I like to make the CC version resemble the real sport as much as possible. This tourney is designed to take us through an abbreviated 32-team March Madness college basketball playoff bracket.

Play: 1 vs. 1
Open: freebies welcome, but I ask that you are able to complete 2-3 maps in a single week.
The field: A 64-team bracket.

• Game play: Each coach in the tournament will have its starting five and two players off the bench, making each game a seven-map showdown. But it’s not a straight-up best-of-7 series…instead each player will earn points based on a well-tested scoring formula I’ve conceived.

Get on a hot streak by winning your map quickly.

Image

Percentages drop sharply as the rounds advance and play is capped at 12 rounds to prevent running up the score. This also rewards a losing player for fighting hard rather than simply going the suicide route.

• Because I’m using a carefully developed scoring formula all maps are preset for each position. Smaller maps are used for the bench players. Settings will be flat rate card and chained forts with a mix of fog and sunny (see box).
Rounds are based on the # of rounds reached in the game.
Army accrual is only allowed if both players have a turn in that round.
(Except conquering neutrals are allowed all the way to the finish)

Image

Example for a starting SG
You gain 42 armies for regions held during the game, so 42/5 = 8.4 (8 FG attempts)
You gain 7 in bonuses + 4 in owned card bonuses, so 11/5 = 2.2 (2 FT attempts)
You turn in 14 in cards + conquer 4 neutral territories, so 18/5 = 3.6 (4 3P attempts)
I then take you shot attempts and run it through the shot chart (first graph) for how many rounds the game went.

• Who’s your star?
Each coach will be asked to choose a star player out of their starting-five…the formula allows this player to put up more shots in a typical game. So choosing the player on the map you are most confident with is the smart move.

• Win your first-round game and advance…lose and you’re out. The winner of the championship showdown at the end is of course the winner of this Conquer Club tourney.

I hope it doesn’t sound too confusing…in the end winning the most maps and winning quickly should end in success.

I’ll be trying to update scoreboards at least every 48 hours, so you’ll have a good idea where you stand as each round goes.

• Sign-ups – seeding for the tourney will be based on your CC rank when you register.

When you sign-in please select any Division I basketball school that you would like to represent AND which player you would like to designate as your “star”

Good luck to all and let’s have some fun with it, flex

Any questions, please post in the forum so they can be answered for everyone.

Point guard in the default if you don't designate a "star" player.

Here's the team list...still hoping for a full 64-team bracket...if not I'll adjust as necessary with first-round byes...signups end Sunday night.

Oh hells yes I'm in. I think I get the gist of the scoring system, but I'm going to leave most of the number crunching up to you.

I'll stick with my typical Texas A&M Aggies, with my PF as my star. Current CC points: 1488.

Eh I'm sure I'll figure out all that math stuff sooner or later... count me in. I'll take my usual Vermont Catamounts. Current score is 2004, and I'll have my point guard be my star player (even if the real catamounts have yet to find a serviceable pg  )

I'm in. Not sure I get the scoring but guess if I bash my opponent up enough I win?

I'll have SG as my star. I have no preference which team so put me down for who evers left.

Pretty much...although the maps for the starters are weighted more than the bench maps and shutting down a star player (winning on your opponent's preferred map) could swing a game as well :)
