May 8th, 1945 to May 8th, 2015

On the first day of the VE Day festivities a national two-minute silence will be held at The Cenotaph at 3pm on Friday, May 8, marking the moment prime minister Winston Churchill broadcast his historic speech to formally announce the end of the war. It will be followed by the lighting of more than 100 beacons, stretching from Newcastle to Cornwall.

The day was called V-E Day, VE Day, or just V Day(as the United States celebrates). Though we do not have references in CC of the campaigns, we can take a trip across Europe by Rail or by foot. Those soldiers fighting back then would be amazed at the sights of “Smart Phones” that we have today. One living soldier boasts today “If we had “Smart Phones” back then our packs would be a lot lighter!” Other soldiers have commented “We got by with our guns and helmets, we didn’t need the technology that we have in today’s world.”

Whichever part of the world you belong to, there was a sense of joy when leaders of all nations declared that the Nazi’s were defeated and laid down their weapons. Seventy years later, with many still living, Dignitaries, Government Leaders, Soldiers, and Monarchs will gather over a 3 day weekend to mourn the passing of many men who dedicated their lives to freedom from Nazi tyranny, and to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of VE Day.

Those who are on ConquerClub, will be able to celebrate in their own way with these maps:

The British Isles map
Classic Cities: London map

Ireland map
Rail Europe map
Wales map

FAQs

Who can play a Challenge?
All challenges are open to everyone, although freemiums may have a problem meeting the game load.

How do we join?
All you have to do is a)create games that meet the requirements or b)join games that meet the requirements. They can be private, public or even tournament games. Team CC is not creating any games, the whole thing is done by users. There is a game-join link at the top of the first post.

What are the prizes?
For reaching the Challenge Goal you get one of the rarest medals on the site, the Challenge medal. Challenges only come around once, if you miss it, you won't ever have another chance.

Soon after the end of the event!

How is deadbeating dealt with?
Please report deadbeats in your games, I will do a random check. Inventory items will stay, but medals might be taken away if the deadbeats points do not allow for a medal.

Tiebreakers?
They are dealt with by looking at who was first to achieve the desired result.

Rulings
1. Deadbeats will have entry points stripped.
2. Wins by round limit count as normal wins.
3. Games can always have round limits but they never need to.
4. Inventory relating to the challenge will vanish at the end of the year.
5. Bot games do not score tokens.

So we have another spam-em-up challenge. These tend to be the more popular ones.

Also note that this month was written by takman2k, the newest member of the community team. Thanks to him!

What on earth is Ireland doing in this challenge seeing as they weren't involved in the war (apart from the North)?

I see some hesitation on the June challenge.

Shouldn't we commemorate the 200 anniversary of the Waterloo battle? Waterloo map comes as a natural candidate...
