A Foretaste of the Second War
In the last year of the Great War, the German High Command was getting desperate. Almost four years of trench warfare on the Western Front had left all the major participants exhausted without producing victory. Russia had finally been defeated and German troops from the Eastern Front were streaming west. Meanwhile, however, the U.S. had entered the war, and American troops were disembarking in French ports. The Germans needed a decisive victory to knock either the British or the French out of the war before the Americans could tip the balance against them. Hindenburg rolled the dice on a grand offensive which was to cut the British Army in half and seize the Channel ports. He used every possible tactic existing -- massive bombardment, gas attack, infantry waves, tanks and cavalry -- as well as newly-developed covert infiltration tactics. In the end, the offensive gained good ground but not good enough. When it was over, the Germans were exhausted, and initiative passed to the Allies.

In the Second World War, once again, the Germans were desperate for a win in the last year of the war. The lineup was slightly different (the American forces were much larger, and the French were much smaller) but the idea was essentially the same -- punch a big hole, and rush through to the Channel ports to cut off the Allied supply line. Once again, the Germans were to roll the dice on a massive battle, using every available tactic, including once again a major effort at covert infiltration.

Thus the Battle of the Lys in the First World War (also known as the Lys Offensive, the Fourth Battle of Ypres, the Fourth Battle of Flanders and Operation Georgette) was a remarkable foretaste of the Battle of the Bulge (also known as the Second Ardennes Offensive) in the Second World War. And although we have no map portraying the Lys Valley or the Western Front of WWI, we do on Conquer Club have an amazing map of its WWII counterpart, the map WWII Ardennes.

FAQs:

Who can play a Challenge?
Challenges are open to everyone!

How do I join?
No signups required. Join and/or create games that meet the given parameters for this month as found in the OP. Only public games count towards the challenge unless otherwise explicitly stated in the challenge OP. There is also a "join games" link in the OP to provide an easy list of qualifying games.

What are the prizes?
All players who meet or exceed the minimum number of required points for the month will earn a Challenge Achievement Medal. The point requirements change every month as we aim to provide a vast assortment of challenges which includes a varying level of difficulty.

In addition to the medals, the first place finisher receives: 1 Green Conquer Star
Image
And the 2nd-5th place finishers receive: 1 Blue Conquer Star
Image

When do I get my prize?
My goal is always to award prizes during the week following the completion of the event.

How do we deal with deadbeating?
Please report deadbeats in your games by sending me a PM. I will periodically do a random check however I cannot monitor every game. We will evaluate the distribution of prizes to a violating player on a case by case basis.

Tiebreakers?
Ties are awarded to the player who reached the point threshold first.

A player has me foed and it is preventing me from joining a lot of challenge games. What can I do?
PM the player in question. Be courteous and non-accusatory, ask why you are foed. Do your best to resolve any issues with the other user in this manner. However, if they decided not to remove you from their foe list then you will need to join games without that player or start your own.

What if I want to run a parallel tournament to the challenge?
Okay, awesome! Individual tournaments can be added to the challenges so that those games drop tokens. Send me a PM and we will get it added for the month.

Rulings:
1. Deadbeats will have entry points stripped.
2. Wins by round limit will drop tokens.
3. Inventory relating to the challenge will vanish at the end of the year.
4. Bot games do not drop tokens.
5. Any unforeseen abuse is still abuse. Don't take advantage of the system.

If you have any further questions or issues not covered here please either post in the active challenge thread or PM CatchersMitt14.

British Heavy Tanks, the first military tanks. That is a Mark IV. They were produced for the "Landships" committee.

Added:

The Mark IV Male tank 'Hyacinth' H45 of H Battalion, 24th Company, 10 Sec was ditched in a German trench while supporting the 1st Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment, one mile west of Ribecourt.

Apparently some people are having trouble finding the games. Game finder links are all there, but they are combined with the list of tokens to make the overall post more compact.

Quite long, mostly when I see that quasi all games will finish before mid may

We were worried about the 10-player games not finishing. Looks like they're going faster than expected.

Is there something to win for a player who reach at least 1 token of each? or just eternal gratitude?

It would be nice to promote a GA for this, as it 's not so easy.

Is CatchersMitt in charge of running the challenge? Do you mind looking again at the games. I reviewed my Ardennes games that met the criteria and I counted tokens in 7 game types? Do you mind checking my score again? Thanks!
