While I appreciate betiko lives in a place where the most dangerous thing around is a spider that can cause you to itch for a couple days if it bites you, I live in a place where there are these -

Given the choice between having a firearm or a rape whistle, I would go with the firearm. (Yes, I do have capsaicin 10%, too.)

I think it would be rather expensive to build walls and checkpoints around all the cities to ensure no one was going from a rural area into an urban area with a firearm.

Unless you mean it should be on the honor system?

Well i thought americans were great at building walls. You could build walls around the 40 real cities you have, and let the rests have their amirite riffles

In my country it's illegal to kill endangered species for fun. If we see a bear, we start petting it and become friends

Well, according to what I found from Bing-Dot-Com there are 35 wild bears in France. There are 340,000 wild bears in the USA. That's one bear for every 800 people!

And it's illegal to hunt bears in the USA, generally. But you're allowed to defend yourself if one tries to mate with you.

What if two bears try to DP you? Probably wouldn't have a chance to even reach for your pistol before they had you.

What do you do if you are taking a crap in the woods and a bear comes stumbling out?

Tell him, "I don't swing that way buddy."

Hey now, there won't be any shooting of bears (animal, human, french, or otherwise) in my thread. But if you did need to hunt bears, you'll want a fully automatic rifle such as the SPAS-15 to ensure you bring down your target.

How about allowing guns in rural environments but making it illegal to own guns in an urban environment, or carry guns, or buy/sell guns?

Brilliant. How about everybody west of the ol miss have their 5th amendment rights removed, but everyone east may keep it?

Unlikely. Bears are known to be very conservative and not sexually adventurous.

Neoteny wrote:There has been a lot of hand-wringing over gun control legislation recently, and a criticism from the right has been that liberals do not know guns well enough to effectively legislate. As a gun owner and halfbreed redneck, I want to assume the mantle of educator so that we can all talk about gun rights from an illuminated perspective. Feel free to post your own facts too! I will of course be making corrections as necessary.

Starting off:

The "AR" in AR-15 stands for "assault rifle."

What is commonly called a "clip" is actually called a "cartridge."

Oh f*ck, the cringe.

AR 15...Armalite 15. It's the manufacturer.

No weapon is "assaulting." You can assault an objective with a pistol or a spoon and apply the same thing. Calling anything an assault weapon without the assault is just stupid and I'm beginning to think anyone who says it is either ignorant or out right dumb.

Its called a mag. I refuse to call it anything but that.

I knew one guy who had to shoot a black bear just to get from his cabin to the outhouse in the morning.

Down in the tip of Ontario where I live, bears have long vanished, but just two or three hours north of here they're still quite common.

I was thinking Dixie keeps the guns and the yanks stops having theirs.

Hey... it s not really my problem if you guys keep having school and university shootings. I guess "nothing can be done" right? The solution is definitely "let's asume that guns are only being sold to wise people such as myself". And that those wise people are not unadvertedly giving access to them to schizos. Because no people that own guns have schizo families and friends.

I 100% knew as I posted this thread that koolbak, as the only hick with a goddamn sense of humor on this website, would be the first to catch it, and I also knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that these facts would drive gun dorks nuts and they would smugly correct me anyway.

The word gun in Middle English was the nickname Gunne, short for Gunnhildr (a proper name). [During the time when England was Scandanavian.] Gunnhildr was based on two root words Gunn and hildr, both of which mean war.

To recap gunn (war) + hildr (war) = Gunnhildr (war-war) -> Gunne -> gun

Sun's out, etymologists out muthafucka!

The bear taps Saxi on the shoulder and says, "I don't think you're here for the hunting. Are you?"
