Yeah, yeah. There was an friendly-fire accident. It happens. Only a nutcase would spin it into some big crisis.

As is always in the fog of war, there was some confusion in the beginning, but it was all straightened out pretty quickly.

A day later, AP replaced its story citing the unnamed U.S. official with a correction note. It said that its anonymous source was wrong and that ā€œsubsequent reporting showed that the missiles were Russian-made and most likely fired by Ukraine in defense against a Russian attack.ā€

Gen. David Petraeus: How the war in Ukraine will end

The war in Ukraine is at a stalemate, but that doesnā€™t mean itā€™s not changing. General David Petraeus predicts the war will look different this year with significant offensives likely staged by the two sides. Overall, the war continues to demonstrate basic weaknesses in Russiaā€™s military, which was once thought to be one of the most capable in the world.

Russia just suffered a crushing defeat and lost an entire elite brigade

Vladimir Putin just suffered one of his most humiliating defeats in Ukraine after one of Russiaā€™s most elite brigades was destroyed near a coal mining town in Donetsk.

For weeks Ukrainian officials had been warning of a coming Russian advance and it looks like one of the first major attacks came at Vuhledar.

Images leaked by the United Kingdomā€™s Ministry of Defense showed that the Russians had likely lost dozens of armored vehicles according to a Reuters report.

Online military bloggers like Reporting from Ukraine, claimed Russia lost an entire tank battalion based on video evidence of the situation released by Ukrainian marines.

for a purely financial/geopolitical perspective this war is great for the US.

It bogs down Russia with no U.S. loss of life and limited investment.

I'm supposed to be impressed that the AP issues corrections after they get caught. =D>

How's the search for Iraqi WMDs coming?

The most hilarious part of the AP debacle is how their inner mentality was revealed. They have no adversarial or critical relationship with the American military industrial genocide machine. They simply waive its lies through as facts with no attempt at corroboration.

ā€œI canā€™t imagine a US intelligence official would be wrong on this.ā€

Can you imagine not being able to imagine a US intelligence official being wrong? This would be an unacceptable position for any educated adult to hold, much less a journalist, still less an editor, and still less an editor of one of the most influential news agencies on earth.

These are the people who publish the news reports we read to find out whatā€™s happening in the world. This is the baby-brained level of thinking these people are serving the public interest with.

If the editors of a wildly influential news agency will just unquestioningly parrot whatever they are fed by government officials while simultaneously protecting those officials with anonymity, they are not holding the powerful to account, and are in fact not meaningfully different from state propagandists.

They are state propagandists. Which is probably why they are sipping lattes in the AP newsroom while Julian Assange languishes in prison.

Leaving no doubt that territorial aggrandizement is the goal, Putin's toady Medvedev announces that Russia will not be happy until it reaches the border of Poland. Translation: obliterates Ukraine entirely.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/2/24/moscow-must-push-borders-back-as-far-as-possible-says-medvedev

The only way for Russia to ensure lasting peace with Ukraine is to push back the borders of hostile states, even as far as the frontiers of NATO member Poland, said former President Dmitry Medvedev.

Medvedev, now deputy chairman of Russiaā€™s Security Council, made the comments in a message on his Telegram account on Friday, a year after Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine in what it called a ā€œspecial military operationā€ to protect Russian speakers and ensure its own security.

(...)

But he said that deal would lack ā€œfundamental agreements on real bordersā€ and not amount to an overarching European security pact, making it vital for Russia to extend its borders now.

ā€œThat is why it is so important to achieve all the goals of the special military operation. To push back the borders that threaten our country as far as possible, even if they are the borders of Poland,ā€ said Medvedev.

No more jibber-jabber about alleged Nazis. Just expanding Russia's borders at all costs.

For a Catholic view on Russia we look back to an apparition in Lourdes, France on 13 July 1917.

I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays. If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred; the Holy Father will have much to suffer; various nations will be annihilated.

Our Lady of Lourdes in France (5 million visitors annually).

Didn't US Government try to push the lab leak 'theory' right from day one?

And now are pushing it once again, coincidentally at exactly the same time they're trying to tell everyone the Chinese government is about to start supplying Russia with weapons for Ukraine. Must be the US's annual China hatefest.

TIL ralf thinks China did this on purpose and it was a military op, and that it was NOT an accidental leak from a lab.

Guys... I think i figured out who Saxi is in RL...

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/world/v ... rk-3309711

"The US-born actor and martial arts practitioner has worked in Japan and has long admired Putin, from whom he received a Russian passport in 2016.

Seagal, a frequent visitor to Russia, backed Moscow's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea region in 2014 as "very reasonable", joined a pro-Kremlin party in 2021, and visited a Russian-controlled part of eastern Ukraine last summer, where he met with a Russian-backed separatist leader.

Ukraine in 2017 banned Seagal from entering for five years on national security grounds."
