Canada's foreign ministry is investigating after at least one of its diplomats stationed in Cuba was treated for hearing loss and headaches.

It comes a day after the US said its diplomats in Havana were experiencing strange physical symptoms.

Reports suggest the envoys could have been targeted by a covert sonic device that causes hearing loss.

Havana denies the allegation, but the US has removed two Cuban diplomats from Washington in retaliation.

It'd be kind of weird if Cuba was really responsible. Turns out Canadian diplomats were also targeted- Canada being one of the countries serving as an intermediary between the US and Cuba.

It really sounds like the kind of shit Russia likes to pull. Weird weapon? Check. Drive a wedge between potential allies? Check. Reliving the Cold War? Check. Aggressive response to sanctions? Check.

It really is Russia's MO.

Things are escalating. Apparently the Americans wanted to install a surrender button in Cuba.

The US has expelled 15 Cuban diplomats, saying Havana failed to protect US diplomats from mysterious acoustic attacks.

"The decision was made due to Cuba's failure to take appropriate steps to protect our diplomats in accordance with its obligations under the Vienna Convention. This order will ensure equity in our respective diplomatic operations," US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Cuban diplomats have been given seven days to leave.

The US doesn't either.
Nothing for Canada.

It's not as if Russia doesn't have form here. Weird weapons- Nuclear poison in the UK, obviously. Attacks on politicians elsewhere- Viktor Yushchenko in Ukraine, for example.

Is Cuba really sophisticated enough to develop a weapon that baffles American scientists? What would be their reason?

It's really a bizarre situation. My suspicion is still that Russia did it. After the weird nerve agent attack in the UK, can anyone really say that Russia wouldn't do something like that?

I mean, seriously, a brief history of Russian attacks will give you an idea of how they operate- chemical weapons- check; radioactive materials- check; nerve agents-check.

Does anyone think that there's a weapon they wouldn't use if they thought it was plausibly deniable?

So far the only other theories that might make sense are:
1) Some sort of malfunction in surveillance devices by Cuba (doesn't make scientific sense)
2) Mass hysteria
3) Some kind of weird new bacterial/viral infection

If it's a sonic weapon, as the US claims, I'm inclined to see Russia as the main suspect. The other three possibilities make less sense.

I don't have any theory. All I know is that I don't blame Russia. Either they didn't do it or they did do it but had good cause.

It's like when I refused to get on the Burma Aung Express and, within 12 months of gaining power, there are calls to indict her for war crimes. Wherever my judgement is coming from it's not been wrong yet. Not sure why I'd change course.

Lol, the weirdest thing about the pee tape idea is that some people genuinely don't think that Trump would ever pay prostitutes to urinate on a bed that President Obama once slept in and then lie about about it because it would compromise his relationship with Russia.

Is there really any part of that that really seems implausible at this point? The Donald is on the hook for banging a porn star while his wife was recuperating from giving birth to his son. Another woman, a Playboy model, plausibly claims that he tried to pay her after sex.
