So I have a neighbour who is one of a group I play cards with once a week ('Tripoley')and he's a friendly guy.
Today I was walking into the town and he was driving past so he stopped to give me a lift.
We chatted on the way into town, probably more than we have before. I already knew he wasn't much like me - he is very skilled at DIY of all kinds, has added a huge amount to the value of his property with the conversions and additions he's carried out - I'm a total klutz in that area, I barely know which end of a screwdriver is which.
He is also a line-dancer, and in fact teaches a class. I'm afraid that for me, line-dancing is one of the three most tedious things in the world (the other two are Bingo and studying for Accountancy exams. I haven't done the latter in many decades, but the mind-numbing tedium of having to do so is still the cause of an occasional nightmare).
Another in the list of ways the Tom is not like me is that he doesn't drink. Like, at all, ever. Whereas I have been known to indulge from time to time (to time to time).
Oh, and he voted for Trump.
But the biggest one just floored me. He asked where in the town I was going. I told him, 'The Book Shop'. (They were having an interesting new event at which regular customers get to swap unwanted books for other books - including some pre-release copies which the shop isn't allowed to sell). He didn't know where the bookshop was, which was surprising - he's a long-term resident of the town.
But he said 'I don't read books. I've never read a book in my life!'
Wow.
