California Enacts New Minimum Wage

Postby saxitoxin on Thu Feb 29, 2024 6:26 pm

California has enacted a new minimum wage of $20/hour for food service workers.

The new wage applies to all restaurants ... except restaurants that primarily serve bread.

In completely unrelated news, Panera Bread has made a $175,000 payment to California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Panera Bread is owned by JAB Holdings, the investment vehicle of the multi-gajillionaire Reimanns, a German family with deep ties to the Nazi Party and who coordinated with Hitler in orchestrating the Holocaut.

Unless Jovan Houston plans on smuggling McNuggets in her socks to feed her 5 kids I’m not sure it’s a wise career move.

Btw....

Two months later, several of the Reimanns revealed to The New York Times that their mother, Emilie Landecker, Albert Jr.'s mistress, baptized as a Catholic like her mother, was the daughter of Alfred Landecker, a Jewish man deported to the Izbica Ghetto in 1942. His ultimate fate is unknown although many Jews sent to Izbica were held there pending transport to the Belzec and Sobibor extermination camps. They have renamed the family foundation after him and doubled its budget to €25 million (US$28.2 million), to fund projects that honour the victims of the Holocaust and Nazism.

In the year 2024, the billionaire who owns the Panera Bread megacorporation pays a $175,000 bribe to the governor of California so that he can keep paying his workers poverty wages.

Have you forgotten that I'm a low-carb guy? I think all bread-makers should be tried for crimes against humanity.

I know this thread was really about Panera but...

$20/hour, 40 hour work week, 52 weeks a year = $41600 GROSS, on which in CA about $8000 will be held for tax (more will be held for SS ect but lets keep it simple) so you net $33,600.

Average rent payment for 1 bedroom apartment in CA = $1980, or $23760.

This would leave someone $10,000 to cover all other expenses in a calendar year, or $833 a month for food, health insurance, car payment/insurance, and everything else that comes up in life.

Shoulda bought Bitcoin... NGMI

Unless you work for a company that bribed Gavin Newsom for an exemption to the minimum wage, in which case you're left with $40 and some stale bread.
