The basics...
Doubles tourney, so find a teammate and pick a team to represent.
I'm working on prize allocations for this tourney.
Winner of the WNBA Finals is the champion.
• Play style: Each WNBA game will include two doubles maps, along with six 1 vs 1 maps (3 maps per teammate).
Map settings: Flat, Chained, Foggy, Standard (20-round limit).
The tournament will follow the WNBA season, which starts in early May and runs through the summer. The WNBA season is 40 games long, and for our purposes 10 teams will make the playoffs.
The winner of each conference will get a first-round bye.
The top five teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs. Wildcards will be a best-of-3 playoff series. The bulk of the playoffs, including the WNBA Finals will be best-of-5.
To meet CC rules, we will be adding in four historic WNBA franchises to give us a 16-team league.
Each game will be broken into 8 maps (five representing the starters and three for the bench players).
Each player will earn points based on a well-tested scoring formula I’ve conceived.
Each team has some decisions to make for its home court.
First, teams need to choose which map they prefer between the two choices for each position.
Second, teams need to designate 1 starter map and 1 bench map to be their doubles map.
Third, each teammate picks 2 starter maps and 1 bench map to play as their 1 vs. 1s. Each teammate should have 3 total maps.
These will be settings when your team has a home game.
4-26 WNBA maps by David Ball, on FlickrBasically, win quickly to connect on a higher percentage of your shots and to shut down your opponent (see shooting chart below). Percentages drop as the rounds advance and the count is capped at 12 rounds to prevent running up the score. This also rewards a losing player for fighting hard rather than simply giving up.
4-18 NBAshooting by David Ball, on FlickrAlso, starters are weighted to put up more shots than bench players, so like in a real game, the starting five will have a greater influence on the scoring.
Example for a starting SG
You gain 42 armies for regions held during the game, so 42/5 = 8.4 (8 FG attempts)
You gain 7 in bonuses + 4 in owned card bonuses, so 11/5 = 2.2 (2 FT attempts)
You turn in 14 in cards + conquer 4 neutral territories, so 18/5 = 3.6 (4 3P attempts)
I then take you shot attempts and run it through the shot chart (first graph) for how many rounds the game went.
In addition to regular game-play accruals.
If you prevent your opponent from turning in a card set, you will receive a made shot bonus for your side.
That will be a bonus 3P make for the PG, SG and SF positions.
A bonus 2P make for the PF and C positions
And a bonus FT make for any bench players.
