Can I bug you with a question?

Of all the leading players in each division what were their choices for home maps?

Cheers

TrafalgarLaw01 - Spanish Armada
Bamage - World Cup 2014

Premier B - theyfly is leading by 7 points with 12 in play
TheflyCassanova - Conquer Rome
Nibotha - Antarctica

Premier C - SCuD steamrolled his league
SCuD - hive (Champion of his league Already)
Clanlor Carl - Second place atm but far away from SCuD - Waterloo

Premier D - Its gonna be between Devante, Avi8or and Zorro134
Devante - King's Court II

Thanks for that mate. It makes for interesting reading. Complex maps definitely came out on top (with the exception of Antarctica which one could say is specialised).

I don't think Hive is that complex (not in the same way a Conquer Rome is), but it does allow you to have bad dice for a while but stay in the game. It's a good map for the favourite to grind out 90% victory rates. The two home games I lost were wild dice, and I was outdeploying even in one of those so would have turned it around for sure, but round limit just made it too little too late.

Selecting a map you can be sure of a very high winning % against randoms is a crucial part.

But the big winning margin for me was, I think, due to being adaptable. If you can win 2-0 on your home maps, and put yourself on a level playing field against even the most difficult and specialist of away maps, that's the secret.

For example, Scarlet Lady chose Spanish Armada, a complex map with specialist thinking. I had never played it. So I spent some time figuring it out and ended up winning 2-0 away. This is no disrespect to Scarlet Lady, the games were evenly played IMO, and I had some good fortune. 1-1 would have been a more fair result. But most people woudln't even give themselves a chance of a 1-1 there (hence Scarlet Lady's fantastic finishing position)

If we go again and the top 5 from each league enter the premier division I may have a map rethink though :)

This begs the question.

Are we getting another league? Appreciate it's a lot of work.

Hi mate.

Yeah, for sure it helps to be a good cross-mapper when it comes to playing the away games. I knew Spanish Armada and rated myself on it (in terms of what to do) but it only takes a couple of rounds of shit dice while the log shows your opponent blasting thru neuts (T1 to T5 effectively) and you know your goose is cooked when they're receiving 20+ more troops per turn than you are. In essence it's a conquest map at first, blasting thru all the neuts, then an element of luck choosing the right target once a ship is loaded. Don't care for it too much but do enjoy the history lesson it's given me

I went for a simple map that has a tactical quirk - USApocalypse - because I didn't want to get bogged down with a load of large complex maps when four games were supposed to come out every fortnight so went for something that can be finished quickly (10-4 stats which I'm OK with).

In hindsight I'd have gone for Stalingrad probably. 14 home games in 31 weeks would have been very manageable, even with all that Armada away bollocks.

yeah, for Hive I felt pretty confident after a round or two usually. Then just played without too much thought needed. A couple of mistakes wouldn't be likely to get rid of a chunky advantage. But.... the bloody clearing up. JFC.

Against at least a couple of people, who seemed intent on fighting back til the end, I basically just played a bit randomly and quickly and waited for the round limit.

Not my job to use brain power to end the games quickly if they want to drag it out!

Awesome news.

I'd offer to help, but I'm unreliable and generally useless at that sort of thing. I'm good at excel though if you want help with spreadsheets!

BTW, something that would be cool would be to have home and away tables too. So we can delve a bit more in to seeing how each person is doing. Was it just an excellent home map choice, or are they delivery really well away?

I am giving nickname to new ScuD as FRAuD, common he comes to 87 points, 16 more than anyone else while playing my copywriting map (Hive), how is that theoretically possible?
If I challenge that FRAuD on Hive, I will wipe the floor with him.
I am even suspicious that he is multi of narutoserigala, when you compare years when narutoserigala was active, in those years FRAuD was inactive, and vice versa.
Can anyone do factual multi check of FRAuD?

Ah if only that were true Josko. Unfortunately (or fortunately really) I know Scud personally and he's a bit of a maths whizz. Hive is all about mathematical logic which is why both you and he excel on that map =D>

Scud is a real top level player on all maps. Naruto is / was not even good on all maps -So "multi's" is quite funny and think this is supposed to be a joke :D

But Josko vs Scud on hive : id like to see who wins. They are the 2 best on that hive thing. =D> =D>

I am up for tryout.
His conquering this tourney on my copywriting map would be the same as Chariot of Fire coming to Croatia and saying that he is more Croat than me.

Sorry I only check the forums about once every... 5 months :D and even then I'll only check circa one thread, so I missed all this.

What is a copywriting map? Do you mean, you made it your own so much with so many victories that it sort of became yours?

Well. Well... If I remember you quite like unlimited forts on such maps? Or that may have been a coincidence with games I saw you play. I have no idea, I feel fine playing unlimited though, but that's a hell of a lot of work of an evening to play those first few turns!

Would I give you a few games of it? Sure, if you want, we can have a bash :) I don't mind what settings too much, you pick!

On if I am narutoserigala. Well, that is, I presume, meant as something of a complimentary joke! So I'll say thanks :) Although I would add that I wouldn't put him in the top echelon of players in a wide ranging cross map kinda scenario! He just figured out how to slap (exploit?) on Das Schloss, and just kept killing noobs to eek out tiny amounts of points. It really was a 0% chance he could lose against someone who didn't know the various tricks involved. I'm sure lots of us would be 50/50 likelihood to win against him on Das Schloss now, and he'd get spanked on everything else. Still an interesting character!

I'm more like you josko, I kinda go AWOL a bit :D and don't care too much for my overall score! Hence I've never really had a high score. As soon as I get up there I disappear for a while, and what ranking I didn't lose playing chefs in dice fortune heavy tournaments I lose to missing turns :D

Anyway, if you want to have a couple of games on Hive, I'm here for it. Or any other map really. I'm not fussy!
