As far as graphics are concerned, I'm not entirely sure. I'll try to give you something in-depth in the near future.

If you're going to play with colors, I would suggest you to try with few main colors, maybe one for each main area and then use ,for the smaller bonus zones, different shades of that color. Remember to test the result on vischeck to ensure your map is colorblind friendly. ;)
Try to work also a bit on borders and rivers, now pixelous; take a look at that link, you can find some useful infos --> viewtopic.php?f=466&t=98432#p2242704. The title is nice, but the arts on it get lost because is very small, try to make it more noticeable so it stands out a bit more.
There are some other things that could be commented, but since you have recently reached the graphics workshop, before going deeper with comments i'd like to see what you come up with your next update.

Nobodies :)

p.s. Not to waste your time, for now work only on one version, when you've your map almost ready for the forge you can produce the small (or the big) version without problems.

I've been saving this one for a while, but your rivers are pixelated and they irritate me. Other than that it's pretty clean and tidy, which is a good thing. But really, I think it lacks style and I'm not sure how to remedy that because it seems some mapmakers have it and others don't. It's not really something you can advise on.

Do you guys plan to revamp the graphics on this map or are your going to try and run it through as is?

revamp as in change the color scheme yes. I posted this above, i was just wondering what colors you all thought would go good with this kind of map, Farang and i know we have to make this feel more "Thai" style, i have been putting images i have taken around Thailand on but i just can't find the right image and i keep deleting them after i put them on, same with a Thai style boarder on the map, just kind seem to find a good looking style. Any suggestions would be nice, maybe links or images of colors? I mean i am no Rjbeals but i will try my best...

And i know that river looks like crap, i will for sure change that as well, i was thinking of starting with the actual country first tho and the color scheme there, then the neighboring countries i was thinking of making just "faded" in the background so we can focus on Thailand itself... the key also sucks, been trying to mess around with it just can't seem to get it to look how i would like it too.

And thanks TNB, i will check out that link, i was thinking of changing my boarders from a 2px to 1px. too thick now? everyone agree?

I think if we have a photo of the king on our map, it will become invincible. :D

OK I started from scratch and came up with this... I am focusing on the background right now, i put in a boarder and put in diff seals from diff provinces of Thailand to give it more of a "Thai" feel, i also changed the Kings logo to a better looking (at least i thought) version of it. I just colored the country in white for now so you could see what the background would look like, still thinking of how to re do the key and make it look nice... give me some feedback and let me know if you guys like where this is going or not. Thanks

The shape of this map doesn;t lend itself very well to a big rectangle.... at least not if you're going to stick with a North=Up perspective. If you were to rotate the map about 120 degrees anti-clockwise or 70ish degrees clockwise, then you'd be able to use a much smaller canvas (similar to RjBeals' map of Italy). As it stands at the moment, it looks like over 50% of the map is background :-k

That is because I didn't put the legend in yet. I will also mess around with rotating the map and see what i come up with, i had it positioned differently before and people did not like it, they seemed to like it how it is now. But I actually made the map even wider on this new graphics version of the map, so it does take up more room the the game play versions of the map.

And once i get the key + the HTMS + the Maekong river back on it will fill up nicely again.

A tilt wouldn't be bad at all, I mean, don't turn it sideways or anything.

If i rotated it like this i could close in on the right side a bit and move up on the bottom to make the full size of the map smaller on the big version... what do you guys think? Don't mind the colors / boarders right now, i can now change the colors as i want, these were just the first colors i laid down so i can easily change them now.. give me some info on the rotation. Thanks

very nice map
I would say either you tilt it to minimize the height like this

or you stick to vertical and make as narrow as possible
to give a graphic feeling about this country

I myself like the 2nd example you did here (the longer one) as it correctly represents Thailand, the first example flips Thailand sideways but it does save a lot of room and you wouldn't have to scroll when you played the map... I will put these 2 versions to a poll so I know which one to go with... 3 days would be enough time I think.

maybe this was already asked and answered, but...

1) What makes the difference between sub-zone bonuses and all-zone bonuses? On World, for example, there are extra regions to take to get the additional bonuses.

2) Airports. Some airport connections buried within regions/zone bonuses, others to the side. Will this unbalance the play?

Here, my first go at a diff graphic approach, some things stayed the same graphics wise, just wanted to throw this out there and see what everything thinks, i changed the dimensions to 600x840. I will be driving down to Bangkok in 2 days and wont be back for a week or 2, so this will be on pause for a while, i might be able to find some time to check in every once in a while so we will see, but internet is too expensive in BKK!

well we have the regular territory bonus and then the super region bonuses, is that what you meant?

2) Airports. Some airport connections buried within regions/zone bonuses, others to the side. Will this unbalance the play?

there are only 3 airports, Chiang Mai and Phuket only connect with BKK (Bangkok), this is to show the influence BKK has on Thailand and it is true that flights always stop in BKK first before going anywhere else in Thailand if you are connecting from the north to the south.

Btw, Thailand has already been approved for gameplay. Please find my comments below anyway.

It's like NYC. To induce players to expand in a certain direction (which corresponds to the traditional geographic divisions of Thailand) we make the all-zone bonus be more than the sum of its parts. This concept is used in many maps.

stahrgazer wrote:2) Airports. Some airport connections buried within regions/zone bonuses, others to the side. Will this unbalance the play?

The fact that the airport symbol appears to the left of Phuket is because the island is too small to contain the symbol. It functions the same as the other airports.

I don't think the airports will unbalance play because Chiang Mai and Phuket are in big continents that are not likely to be held often. There may be some resistance if someone wants to go through a hostile Bangkok which is somewhat fortified, but connectivity remains, nonetheless. And there are a few other conduits, like Chakri Naruebet and the river ferry.

I think you did a มหัศจรรย์ ("extraordinary") job with the revamp. Now I'm looking forward to playing it even more!

Note: Please extend the mountains between Uthai Thani and Kanchanaburi as we originally had.

Also, the connections to HTMS Chakri Naruebet could be more clear.

I'd like to the land have some sort of texture, whether grunge or something like the symbols youve used elsewhere on the map I'm not sure.

I'm not sure about this
first put the armies numbers
then let see if more "noise" is needed

Opps forgot to make the connections more clear, i am at a Hotel in BKK right now and i gotta go so imma just load this up and get more thoughts, i did what pamoa suggested with putting the 888's on there, and if what IH said is needed after the digis are on there let me know... i am in BKK like i said, perfect place for taking some pics of the cultural icons, farang if you think of anything email me or something, i am keeping my eye out for anything i could add to this map. I put the 3 starting neutrals on there, wasn't very sure about the exact neutral number i put 1,1 and 2 for BKK, let me know if that is right Farang... there are so many Farang at my hotel right now! I am the only Farang in my city up in the north! :)

It's looking really nice. I think 2 on Lopburi, 3/4 on BKK and 2 on HTMS Chakri Naruebet would be good. BKK is a +2 bonus so maybe 4 neutral armies is fitting. That shouldn't deter people from going for it I should think.

That sounds good FD. In the left top hand corner we HAVE to have either a picture of the king OR what we have there now the Kings "symbol". The one i had on there before was his 60th anniv symbol but this one is his original symbol (tell me if i am wrong FD). But being here in BKK I have seen this one everywhere. In CM and in Fang i mostly see the 60th anniv symbol, but the king must be above the map, this would be most respectful.

Alright here it is again with little adjustments, i forgot to update the first page on the last update anyways. Free net here at this hotel, might as well get my moneys worth! I put one of the famous Thai southern "puppet show" chars on the side there, pretty much a big symbol of the south, let me know if it looks OK, if not ill take it off.

@ IH, i dunno after putting on the digi888s, i am wondering if it will look too crowded putting symbols in the back, maybe a little grunge but i am not sure where to even start, ill need some input on that before i do anything there.

So we got BKK 4, LB 2, HTMS 2 (starting neutrals)
