Serbian Conquest [Winner: freakns]

Postby barterer2002 on Thu Feb 12, 2009 1:46 pm

The Serbian Conquest.

In honor of Serbia I present this little tournament.

All games will be on Standard, Escalating, Chained, Sunny settings
There will be 25 players involved broken randomly into groups of 5 each round with 1 person eliminated from each group each round until the finals which will be a winner take all 5 man series. This map is themed for both the nation and the player Serbia. (in all tiebreakers it's one game unless it ends up being 1v1 in which case it's best of 3)

MUST BE PREMIUM TO JOIN

The Balkens in general and Serbia in particular have long been a source of battles. They have fueled more wars than any of us care to remember over the past three thousand years.

And so we will begin in olden times, with 5 of the more ancient European based maps
Alexander's Empire (led by the Macedonian of course who's homeland borders Serbia)
Battle of Actium (fought at the mouth of the Ionian Sea
Ancient Greece (which also includes Serbia's neighbor Macedonia)
Imperium Romanus (which came into being after the Roman Republic fell shortly after the Battle of Actium (AKA the Final War of the Roman Republic))
The Holy Roman Empire (which grew out of ancient Rome during the "Dark Ages" and at a time when Serbia was a part of the Ottoman Empire-listed in the HRE map)

These will be 5 player game. As with all bart tournaments you get 1 point for winning and nothing for any other place. Players will be broken up into groups of 5 and those with the fewest wins will play a play off game with the first one eliminated being eliminated from the tournament. The tiebreaker for the Ancient maps will be the similarly timed Mongol Empire map which has nothing to do with Serbia but which fits into the time frame of the other maps as being pre 1500. Points do not carry forward from Round to Round. You must advance in each round based on your merits within that round.

For Round 2 we will move into the more modern warfare.
WWI Ottoman Empire (of which Serbia was an integral part of although this particular map focuses more on the middle east rather than the balkans)
Europe 1914 (on June 28, 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne was assassinated in Sarajevo, which is currently in Bosnia but which at the time was a part of Serbia.)
WWII Western Front (as war encompassed the entire continent yet again)
WWII Eastern Front (and the Soviets drove back the Germans and lay claim to Eastern Europe)
WWII Europe (for a view of the entire theatre)

The tiebreaker for this round will be WWII Ardennes (located as a battle within Europe on the Belgian front AKA known as the Battle of the Bulge)

EDIT-NEW RULE. Because I cannot count at the end of Round 2 we are left with 16 rather than 15 players. The two bottom players from Round 2 will play a one game playoff on the tiebreaker map to determine who advances.

Round 3 will bring us a little closer with the soviets controlling the newly created "Yugoslavia" which included Serbia as one of its "federal units"

Soviet Union (which was the ruling occupiers from the end of WWII until the breakup of Yugoslavia during the 1990s)
Berlin 1961 (as a showcase of resistance to Soviet oppression during this time)
Italy (as a western nation with ties to communists including, undoubtedly, some from Serbia)
Middle East (as another area where there were Yugoslav agents trying to foment unrest)
Malta (really because I need a 5th map in this set and geographically it fits with my set)

EDIT-NEW RULE. At the end of Round 3 we will be left with 12 players rather than 10. The bottom two players from Round 2 will be eliminated. Ties will be broken by the TOTAL WINS IN ALL ROUNDS TO DATE (tiebreaking wins do not count). In the event there is still a tie a game will be played on the tiebreaking map.

The tiebreaker, if needed for this set will be played on Ireland

Round 4.

After the fall of Yugoslavia the war between Bosnians and Serbs, which had simmered for centuries, erupted once more with the Serbian leader Slobodan MiloÅ”ević began an ethnic war with the Bosnians (we can go much further into this of course but I'm looking at quick summaries). During this time, many fled to other (safer) parts of Europe and we'll play this round on 5 of those maps.

France
British Isles
Iberia
Luxembourg
Germany

EDIT-NEW RULE. At the end of this round we will be left with 8 players (needing 5 to advance) the lowest 3 from this round will be eliminated with ties broken by MOST WINS TO DATE IN ALL ROUNDS. In the event there is still a tie it will be played out on the tiebreaker map.

Any tiebreakers this round will be played on BeNeLux

Round 5-The Finals.
At this point we can find people of Serbian decent around Europe and will tie back into our own dearly loved [Game]Serbia[/Game]

Europe (and)
Europa (both of which will represent the spreading of the people)
Great Lakes (to represent where our own Serbia has settled (Michigan))
Scotland (to represent where Serbia has found his heard)
Poker (to represent a favorite pasttime when not on CC)

Unlike Previous rounds, if a tiebreaker is needed in this round it will be a one game winner take all (unless its 1v1 in which case it'll be best of 3) and will be played on Canada (to represent the Hockey that Serbia loves)

The Players

For those who haven't seen my scoreboards before this is how they work. You'll have a number like 2/4 The 2 will be how many wins you have so far and the 4 will be the total possible number if you win every game that you're still active in. Round 1 consists of 5 games. Remember to move on to Round 2 you just need to not finish last in your group, so one win will advance as long as you don't split the five games five ways.

Red players are eliminated

Barterer2002 and I are buddies, and I'm a big hockey fan. I'm Serbian, living in the Detroit area. Sadly, don't speak the language though.

ahhh, Detroit area... well, it makes sense now why you are big hockey fan instead watching football like all normal man do :P

just for info, if anyone is interested. in Serbia, basketball and soccer are two most welcome sports and by far infront of any other sport in terms of popularity. volleyball, handball and waterpolo are also fairly popular, with american football gaining more and more popularity every day(me being a huge Bucs fan, just as this cadet :P lordnex), and tennis is starting to rise with the success of Djokovic, Jankovic and Ivanovic. interestingly, being the first non team sport that make through...

ps. baseball is good also. go Cubbies! although Detroit has the best player in the league. Maggs Ordonez rules! \:D/

pps. Serbia, even if you dont know your language(and as you may notice, i dont know english, so that makes us even :D), its really nice you havent forgot about your heritage :) and there is always time to learn language ;)
