Re: sports maps anyone?
i'm pretty sure that's taken from MLB's 'regional broadcast' maps. you might be able to find other one's in that same vein to tinker with, and i'm not certain but i'm reasonably sure those aren't copyrighted.

Re: Artillery is the King of Battle
i believe the most accurate way to describe Risk is a "military strategy simulation". your the Supreme Leader of your empire, you move around your armies to position them for attack and defense. the individual battles are up to the generals of the armies involved.

Re: Hyborian Age Map
copyright issues may be a problem. in addition to the initial publisher, there's an RPG game that makes heavy use of 'official' maps for the setting.

uhh.... first you'd better figure out if the CC coding can handle that. your initial idea sounds a little too ambitious for the game syste,

Re: The spirit of Tolkien’s Middle Earth
well, if you're looking for some maps with that same sort of feeling, maybe you can do a series based of non-specific fantasy staples.

Re: Football Match Map
as one of those Americans who generally doesn't watch the more Global version of the sport... i say this is a good idea! if the gameplay details can be worked out, you open the door to a variety of other Sports-themed maps.

Re: The spirit of Tolkien’s Middle Earth
i was just wondering if, instead of a Middle Earth map, someone could do a series of maps loosely based off the events of the books... the Mines of Moria, Helms Deep, Pellenor Field... you get the idea.

Re: The spirit of Tolkien’s Middle Earth
okay, not exactly about the original posters idea, but same general subject.
what, exactly, is the copyright issue? is is just map, or does it cover place names as well? i guess what i'm asking is can we generate our own maps based off the events of the books/movies, or are those covered by the ...

as stated before, i have no java capability so my ability to help is limited. i did, hoever, spent about ten years pouring over maps of the world just as a hobby, so i could be of some use in breaking down the regions into smaller chunks.

Re: Africa
if we're gonna do a series of maps, it would make sense to give them all the same general feel, right? maybe we should move this to the Drafts section and and find a single map of Africa we can work with, then break it down in to five separate sections.

pretty much, yes. this shows the major trade centers in the area, which is what the individual Territories would be based off of.

Re: Africa
Here's what i found as starting points on a Sahara map. if you wanna keep it African and not just another roman or egyptian spin off, you're best route is to focus on the Trade empires that sprung up around it and the trade routes through it. you don't need a lot of fancy gameplay rules, just do a ...

Re: Africa
i've been looking on Wikipedia for historical references (hey, it's a good place to go for one-stop-shopping to much more accurate links), and i think i can put together enough historically accurate region names if somebody can find a good map. i can't do the map design for technical reasons, but as ...

don't play myself, so i wouldn't know about a lot of the gameplay mechanics. i also suffer from the decided lack of java capability to design maps. i'd certain take a stab at it if i could, but until then anyone's free to use my suggestions and run with 'em.

Re: Africa
you'd have to expand beyond what's strictly known as the Sahara and in to a region known at the Sahela, as well as take some liberties with time frames, but there's actually quite a bit of native African Kingdoms below the desert proper.

Re: Africa
The USA map pack has proved hugely popular - any thoughts on an African equivalent?
Hmm.
Maghreb, Sahara, Horn, Gulf of Guinea/West Africa, Sub-Sahara, Southern Africa.
Six pretty good regions to work with. You might be onto something.
Interesting idea, but what would a map of the Sahara ...

Re: CUSTERS LAST STAND
i'm not slamming the idea, just as an amateur history buff i was saying that a historically accurate map wouldn't be very practical. if someone wants to run with the idea, they'll have to take a few creative liberties, but that's just fine by me.

Re: CUSTERS LAST STAND
not really doable, if you want it historically accurate at all. the whole battle was just too chaotic to chart in any way linear enough to turn in to a battle map.

Re: Paintball Map
i took a look at the map, and an idea sprung in to my head. i've always liked objective maps as compared to just conquest, so i was thinking that all the different obstacles would be territories with attack routes instead of borders, with a 'flag' space in the center that starts as a neutral with ...

Re: map ideas
you phrased that much more eloquently that I ever could.
the Defender(s) inside the wall would have their 'Castles' fairly close together, allowing them to move troops around fairly easily for defense, but they wouldn't be able to amass large bonus armies per round.
the Attacker(s) would be more ...

Re: Space Battle
Since we seem to have a similar tilt on what a space battle should look like, here's my two cents.
2) Since this is a space battle, there should be no such thing as a "fighter zone", there should be "fighters" everywhere, surrounding the bigger ships.
you don't need to be that technically ...

Re: map ideas
just some thoughts on the Alamo map, one that i've sorta' been bouncing around in my head for a while but have never mentioned until now. i'll just say up front that i've never made a map and i'm not especially good at graphic design, so if this is a very bad suggestion... well, just keep that in ...
