Re: Gun Control
That's a good point, Symmetry. I don't have much experience with guns, and don't consider myself familiar enough with the issue to form an opinion beyond "I am unhappy about gun violence." It just frustrates me to see the "toasters don't toast bread, people who want breakfast do: ban breakfast ...

Re: Gun Control
If guns kill people than pencils misspell words and forks make people fat.
Regardless of one's opinion on gun control, this is an unhelpful strawman and you're not doing yourself any favors by attacking it. Nobody thinks that guns are secretly sentient murder weapons that leap from nightstands and ...

Re: Romney/Ryan VS. Obama/Biden (Supreme Court Justices)
Niall Ferguson's Newsweek story was a hatchet job. Paul Krugman and Brad DeLong both wrote up full takedowns in blog posts, and The Atlantic has a fact-check up as well. Consensus is that Ferguson's cover story crosses the line from partisan to frankly unethical in its manipulation of facts and data ...

Re: Romney/Ryan VS. Obama/Biden (Supreme Court Justices)
It's not that Obama won't release his college records, it's that Obama took the action to make sure that nobody can ever see his college records, he sealed his records. Romney is not sealing his taxes, he's just not volunteering them. If I were Romney, I would not release my taxes either.

Re: Reasons to vote for Obama.......
That's a meaty post and deserves a meatier response, but for now I'll just clarify that when I said "liberals claim [the stimulus] should have been twice as large," I am referring to liberals I know in real life and on other, leftier forums. If that is a position held by democratic congressmen or ...

Re: Romney/Ryan VS. Obama/Biden
I think the point is that he is talking about putting "people" in chains, not chaining the economy with regulations. If Biden were talking about the economy, then I would have never even asked the question

Re: Reasons to vote for Obama.......
When the Obama administration passed the stimulus they controlled both houses of congress and had a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. If from their perspective it was too small - they have only themselves to blame. That's true, and (as far as I know) it isn't "common wisdom" among Democrats ...

Re: Reasons to vote for Obama.......
Obama is a centrist, corporatist tool, and I fear that he's the harbinger of the Democratic Party's broader shift rightward on most non-social issues. Nevertheless, due to the incredibly short shrift third parties get in our national elections, I absolutely believe he is the best option available to ...

Re: Romney/Ryan VS. Obama/Biden
Obama should not condemn Biden's remarks, and the Republican party should praise him as exactly the kind of "straight shooter" they ostensibly love. The metaphor of a chained or shackled American people is common-- Santorum claimed that the ACA "will put you in chains" at his own Iowa State Fair ...

Yeah, I'm an Ohioan and this has been a hot issue among politically-minded folks I know. I try not to jump on the "voter suppression" bandwagon every time things of this nature occur, but the evidence is fairly clear-cut in this case. This part is especially damning:

Re: Who is Paul Ryan and what does he stand for?
(1) Learn about Public Choice. This is interesting stuff, but I think that by now most of us are at least somewhat aware of the fact that the vast majority of politicians are in it to serve their own bottom line. The fact remains that the policies they enact while questing for the almighty dollar ...

Re: Who is Paul Ryan and what does he stand for?
Open question to anyone shitting on the CBO report: where should people like me, who are not economic scholars, look to for non-partisan assessment of things like this? I was of the opinion that if the CBO report is good enough for congress, it should be good enough for me; the fact that writeups on ...

Re: Who is Paul Ryan and what does he stand for?
Apparently, you're easily convinced.
It seems that posted out-of-context quotes, and then supplying a list of ambiguous sources, which fail to show which allegations they support, is enough for you.
Is that accurate? That is inaccurate. At no point did I indicate that everything I knew about Ryan ...

Re: Who is Paul Ryan and what does he stand for?
Actually, it has occurred more than once. In fact, it's been the only thing coming from the campaign and surrogates for the past 2 weeks. From Harry Reid making up the claim to the campaign itself now running ads alleging the action. I don't think it's fair to conflate one staffer's remarks with ...

Maybe if the Obama campaign would stop alleging Romney is a felon without proof and trying to tie him to the death of a woman who had cancer, it would be much easier to tell such a difference. They've tried to claim both those things and actual records as legitimate, so it can be hard to tell the ...

Map looks rad, hope it finds purchase in the rocky soil of the forge.

In a game I'm part of now (10408154), there is a player whose only troops are on The House of Gods. All he can do each turn is deploy his troops and bombard anyone foolish enough to take one of the towers.
