Nostalgia time! I thought it would be fun to remember one of the great TV comedies of all time while playing CC, so here is what I came up with.
........................................
There are three CC maps that explicitly name Cincinnati as a territory:
Great Lakes, USA Great Lakes, and Rail USA.
This tournament will test your abilities on these maps using a variety of scenarios and settings.
32 players -- Premium Only.
When you sign up, indicate which of the three maps you prefer. There will be four groups of eight players. Each group will have one of the three maps as a primary map, but you will also need to play a few games on the other two. You are not guaranteed to get in the group you want, although I will of course give people their preference as much as possible, starting with the principle of first come first served. The fourth group will take up the overflow. Its primary map will be that map chosen by the most people who didn't get into their first choice. You MUST indicate a preference, even if you don't really care which one you end up with.
Please also indicate your choice of spoils, reinforcement, and fog for the 1v1 phases, although the multiplayer phases will use predetermined settings as indicated below.
All games will be Automatic Sequential 24-hour. Other setting vary as indicated.
This is technically a mixed tournament, although there are more 1v1 games than multiplayer games.
Points scored in phases marked as (bonus) will count toward your eventual victory, but NOT toward calculating eliminations. When a phase is not needed for eliminations to occur, I will not necessarily wait for games to finish before starting the next phase.
........................................
Phase One (bonus): A Gentle Beginning
.............................
When you haven't been on a map in a while, it's always nice to get re-acquainted with a laid-back No Spoils Sunny game until you get back into the groove of things. About as laid back as Dr. Johnny Fever!
Each group will play one 8-player No Spoils Sunny Standard 100-round limit game on their group's map.
Each game is worth seven points to the eventual winner if won normally, but only 5 points if it is won by round limit.
Phase Two: A Little Faster
.............................
Each group will play three eight-player Escalating Sunny Terminator no round limit games on their group's map.
Each game is worth 2 points per kill plus 3 points for the game win.
Phase Three: Trial By Fire
.............................
This one will be a little cruel. Sort of like finding out that your friend is suddenly your boss and wants to go on a power trip.
Within each group everyone will play a round-robin, two games against every other player in their group, one on each player's settings and (in case of a mixed group) map. To keep the game load from getting totally obnoxious, I will send out seven games at once and the other seven about four or five days later.
Each game will be worth 3 points to the winner.
GA Medal.: The person with the best record in the Trial by Fire round robin (Phase 3) will win a GA Medal.
By best record we of course mean "most wins." In case of a tie, it will mean:
1. Fastest wins (fewest rounds required to win the games that a player won.)
If this still results in a tie, then:
2. Slowest losses (most rounds survived in the games that were lost.)
And in the astronomically unlikely event that this still results in a tie:
3. Order of precedence (medal goes to the first player who signed up.)
After Phase Three, the bottom two players in each group will be eliminated (24 remain.)
Phase Four (bonus): Foggy Fumble
.............................
A little misdirection goes a long way...
Each group will play one Flat Rate Foggy Standard 20-round limit game on their map. In this game you will score 1 point for every round you manage to hold Cincinnati. If you drop on Cincinnati, the first round doesn't count. If you drop far away, you'd best get moving, because someone else is racking up points!
When the round limit is reached, the winner gets an extra point. If the game is won before the round limit, the winner gets 3 points, but by far the biggest gain possible here is from collecting those Cincinnati bonuses!
Phase Five (bonus): Trips Match
.............................
What a lovely threesome that would have made...
Within each group, there will be one (yup, just one) Triples game, with the 1st, 3rd, and 5th placed player versus the 2nd, 4th and 6th. No Spoils Sunny no round limit.
Each game is worth 4 points to each member of the winning team.
Phase Six: Gentleman's Duel
.............................
"What kind of a bookie puts people on hold?"
For this phase, players will be seeded by rank (to be very specific, by their CC score at the time I make these games, not by their ranking within the tournament.) Each player will be paired with the player closest to them in rank, regardless of which group he's in, and they will play a 5-game 1v1 series.
If both players have the same map, all 5 games will be on the same map. If they have different maps, it will be 2 on each and 1 on the neutral (third) map.
Ditto for settings: if both players use the same settings, it will be 5 games the same. If they differ it will be 2 of each and randomly-chosen settings on the 5th.
Each game will be worth 3 points to the winner.
After Phase Six, the bottom player in each group will be eliminated (20 remain.)
Phase Seven: Assassin Round
.............................
Some people are morally despicable. Like assassins. And crusaders with a hidden agenda.
The five remaining players in each group will play in three 5-player Foggy Assassin 50-round limit games on their map. One each of Escalating, Flat Rate, and Nuclear.
Each game is worth 5 points to the winner if won by assassination, but only 2 points if won by round limit.
Phase Eight: The Turkey Shoot
.............................
"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"
In this phase, each player will go hunting in the other groups, as well as being hunted in his own group. Each player will play in seven 7-player Escalating Sunny no round limit Terminator games. The games will be composed as follows: in each game there will be four players from a group, plus the three players from the other three groups who correspond to the position of the missing player from their own group.
For example, one game will have the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th player from group A, and the 2nd place players from groups B, C, and D, for a total of seven players. Another game will have the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th placed players in group C, as well as the 3rd place players from groups A, B, and D. And so on, for a total of seven games each.
Each game will be worth 2 points per kill plus 3 points for the game win.
After Phase Eight, only seven players will advance: the top player in each of the four groups, plus the next three players according to most points overall (regardless of group.)
Phase Nine: Final Round-Robin
.............................
The seven remaining players will play one more round robin amongst themselves, 1 game on each player's map and settings, for a total of 12 games. Each game is worth 3 points to the winner.
