Why is running out of time not considered deadbeating?

Post by tokle »

Why is running out of time not considered deadbeating?
In nuclear and zombie games you could potentially get a huge benefit from not carding. So why is this allowed?

Deadbeating = missing 3 turns and getting kicked.
Skipping cards is generally an allowed practice tho frowned upon by many.
It's not deadbeating bcuz they aren't missing their turns?

You're asking two different questions. Deadbeating is when you miss three consecutive turns and get kicked out of the game. Slightly less severe is intentionally missing your turn. What you're referring to is playing your turn but intentionally not ending in order to avoid taking a fifth spoil which would force you to cash and potentially nuke / zombie an important region you own, so you time out repeatedly instead.

I'm not sure why you've bothered to make this thread after your C&A report. I already told you the best course of action is to make a suggestion.

Because i wanted a wider discussion about the topic.
What i'm asking here is why they are not considered the same.

Because lackattack was too fucking lazy to code a simple fix that would plug this loophole (awarding you a spoil if you're eligible for it whether you run out of time or not.) Because bigWham is also too fucking lazy to code this simple fix.

Or because it wasn't broke to begin with so there's nothing to fix...

because "conquer club is a casual gaming site," as Lack's original language stated... "you can play it while having a cup of coffee," etc, etc, etc...
if you want something more hard core, join a clan or join a tournament or play games in call outs that are rank restricted... other than that, "sorry about
your little butt" and "suck it up, cupcake." the black jesus has spoken...-Jésus noir

He's in a clan. The simple answer to the question is that both things are completely different. It's like saying "why is a siamese cat not a lion?"

It really should be a check on time out when the game type is nuclear or zombie. It's a beneficial trigger for the other spoils so I get not forcing it there but it can be a detriment in these so it should happen.

In reality, if you were playing Risk in person, with any set of rules, how much sense does it actually make to conquer a territory and then just say "K, cya guys in about an hour, no need to give me a card, I'm just gonna go wank one off".

Seems a little ridiculous. I understand initially that it was meant to be a punishment to miss playing out your turn, but it's now beneficial to do this? You get the troops, you can take a territory but have 0 pressure of not drawing a bad card...lol? It feels inherently wrong and not how Risk was intended to be played, imo. If you don't want a card, go play No Spoils.

I'm actually a little surprised this isn't against the rules. It's basically taking advantage of what could be viewed as an unintentional script error.

Running out of time to avoid taking a card isn't allowed in clan wars; a precedent was set quite a long time ago. It is however, allowed in public games. Furthermore, nuclear and zombie are quite rare in clan wars vs public games.

I know it's never gonna happen, but it would be cool if this was an option when setting a game up. That way people could just choose how they want missed turns or missed ending to affect their specific game. Then nobody would complain about it because it would be their choice.
