Map Artist - Will work for Free or Food [Locked]

Post by WidowMakers »

Hey everyone.

If any new map makers out there need help or would like to turn over all graphics for there new maps, I would be happy to help. I can work with you to turn out a good looking map in the style you see fit.

I only ask that the initial development be done already. I will only start working on a map when the layout and bonuses are done and mostly approved by the members of the community. Once that is done we can start on the art!

I only want to work on several maps at once so first come first serve. Plus I will only work on maps that I feel have some merit.

Really? I was hoping you could help me out a bit...I came up with a sketch (see map ideas thread - its the pangea map). I'd get a lot more responses if I was just designing the actual map & gameplay and you did the actual graphics, because I am a terrible mapmaker but my head is flooded with ideas. Can you help me out?

I'm not sure if you'd be interested, but I'd be very keen to see what you'd do with a city map, like NY.

If I have the time I'll put something together in a week or two.

I only really have 2 maps going at once. One that is very near completion that I am not spending much, if any, time on. And the other new map. Once CM is quenched I will have more time since Montreal is pretty close too.

Great. Just put together a draft and get the foundry involved. I really don't want to do anything till the idea is solid and everyone wants it and the playability is worked out. After that if I still think it is interesting , I will help out.

City on the Lake

This is an idea I have that was originaly done with some XML ideas that were never incorporated. These can be trimmed off though and the game is very much the same.

The problem I've always had is that my graphics are too clumsy and I've asked for help from the start. Any help you'd be willing to give would be great. There are still issues with this map but if you noted any interest I think I could get enough feedback to start reworking the copy I have into something you could take and do your thing to.

I really only want to work on the graphics of a map when everyone is in agreement with. Based on the look of the map, there are some major border and territory issues. Work on those in a basic layout (no fancy graphics) and make sure the map fits in the correct size with bonus text and title. Once that is done, I can help out or do the graphics.

I will try to help out. I think what you are looking for is more a brushes thing. Mibi is really good with brushes you might want to ask him too. I will look for some tutorials on the web and post any I find. My basic knowledge is that you use a texture brush at 25-30% opacity and 25-50 flow rate. By layering over the individual brush strokes you can get a pretty good feel. The mountains I did in the great lakes where just a texture brush at low opacity. The I applied a bevel to the layer and adjusted the setting to give it some depth. Mainly I just play around till it looks good.

Also, Difference clouds has some good results when applied with the correct blending mode.

I hope to be posting my feeble efforts with a London Tourist Map here within a couple of weeks. Problem is, I've got to take on a few freelance projects soon as well as having a baby on the way so my progress will stall considerably.

Would appreciate your opinions on it if nothing else.

This looks good enough to start the process in the ideas forum. Post there are see if you get and support. Once you do and the mechanics are worked out, I will help out on the art if you desire.

As I have said before, if you want me to help with the map the community needs to be on board. Make sure the idea is good and the e mechanics are worked out. The reason I can do a revamp map so quickly is that I don't need to worry about map rules. I just cleanup the current map and amke it look good.
That is what I need from you. I will try to make your sketches of a good playable map look better. You just need to do all of the upfront work first.

First you need to get a working map. Borders, names, bonus, everything else but graphics. Don't worry about graphics now. Once most everyone agrees your map is good and can be played well, I will help out.

NOTE: This is another outrageously long message from me, so for skiming purposes I just highlighted the important part in bold.

My dorm plays a game we call slaps, with risk peices. I have been considering trying to make a map for it on the site, because it is an incredibly insane game that is now possible with the new xml.

I've already started but I wanted it to be mostly done graphically before I submitted the idea because the simple interface with no graphics behind it probably won't be accepted by many people. (It's pretty much just 13 territories..., 6 players, 6 buffers (blocks) and the center.)

My only real question at this point is if I got your help with graphics would you be comfortable drawing people or characters? I've kinda started but the only person I've done so far is Andy, and he actually isn't too bad. I could do it on my own if I have to.

My goal is six people (Andy, Lack, Wicked, AK_Iceman, Moz & Bjork) around a table playing this game. One attacking hand (palm down on the table) and a blocking hand (palm facing the table but not on it, open or closed fingers, in AK_Iceman's case a bent flipper). I have a sketch I'll send later to better explain what I'm talking about.

Again, Characters Specifically:
Andy (Monkey, Curious Geroge specifically)
Lack (Michalangelo? Ninja Turtle regardless)
Wicked (Nobody knows what she looks like, she'll be bottom left facing away from the pov so you can't see her face and will have the red hair of her more popular avatar)
AK_Iceman (penguin XD)
Moz (Superman)
Bjork (Uh... Bjork, Sweedish Chef Muppet)

I picked these characters because I knew I wanted to do Conquer Club characters, and I wanted people with interesting Avators. I then ultimately noted that a full Mod group would probably be best, couldn't decide on a sixth and just went with Bjork because that was hallrious.

If people really like Slaps I could do a Spammer or Map Maker or other version or all of the above as well.

Of course, if you can't draw characters at all then I'll just work on it on my own. I really am up to the challenge on this one, and I'm too frustrated with my New World map at the moment.
